Two-time defending Class A state champion Abbey Leonardi crushed the just under 5k course at Sanford HS today, clocking 17:56. According to Sanford coach Nate Smith, the course had to change a bit from the past, it is over 3 miles but 277ft sort of a true 5k. Leonardi rushed off the starting line, cruising the first mile in low 5:30. The course not considered an easy one, according to Leonardi "I thought it was pretty tough there was a lot of hills and the footing was rough... lots of rocks and roots." Mia Rapolla of Gorham ran a strong 2nd clocking 19:19. On the boys side Bryant Perkins (Sanford) won by 10 seconds over Chris Dunn (Kennebunk), Perkins crossed the line in 16:55 while Dunn ran 17:05.
