Hesler & Waters Lead Maine Contingent at Manchester

MileSplit50 #11 Jeffery Waters of Massabesic ran a patience race and it in the end was rewarded with an outstanding performance. Waters finished as the top Maine runner in the large school race and overall at the Manchester Invitational as he finished 20th in a time of 16:35.

Covering the first mile in 5:22 Waters found himself buried within the pack in 65th. He navigated the difficult second mile which climbs up a ski lift improving 38 spots up to 27th overall in a time of 11:03. Over the final 1.1 miles Waters continued to move up as he picked up an additional seven spots with his closing 5:32.

Deering senior and MileSplit50 #2 Alec Troxell was the second Maine athlete across the line as he stopped the clock at 16:49 good for 29th overall. Troxell had splits of 5:12, 5:51 (11:03), 5:43.

Massabesic (635) 24th place edged Bonny Eagle (680) 26th for the top Maine team honors in the large school race.

In the small race MileSplit50 #6 Luke Marsanskis of Greely was the fastest Maine runner as the senior finished 7th overall in a time of 16:55. Luke ran a smart race as he moved up throughout each mile. At the mile he was in 14th place at a 5:25, during the second mile he moved up into the top ten to the ninth position with a 5:55 mile. He would pick up another 2 spots over the final 1.1 miles as he closed in 5:35 using the downhill to his advantage.

Sophomore Martin Horne of Freeport put in a strong effort to finish 12th in a time of 17:13. Horne used the conservative approach going through the mile in a pace of 5:39 (50th place) before switching gears uphill that saw him pick up  34 sports with his 5:53. His final 1.1 miles was 5:41 where he picked up 4 more spots.

MileSplit50 #1 Greely was the top Maine team as they finished second overall in the small school race. As they had a 48 split with a 17:30 team average.
