Class of 2024

2022 Results

  • Class B State Champion - 18:51.82
  • Class B Southern Regional Champion- 18:57.12
  • Festival of Champions 3rd - 18:27.11

Drake won the Class B cross-country title a year ago as she cracked 19 minutes on the tough Twin Brook course. Cary ran a best of 18:27.11 for 5k last fall. Drake was incredible on the track a year ago too as she won the 800, mile, and 2 mile indoors, and then won the 800, 1600, and 3200m races outdoors. Along the way, she clocked 4:55.35 for 1600m and 11:12.35 for 3200m. Entering 2023 Cary will be the one to beat in Class B and will be one of the top runners in New England. Last year Drake led York to the triple crown as the Wildcats won XC, indoor and outdoor team titles, Can she do that again this year?

Getting to Know Cary

How has your summer training gone? Approximately how many miles have you logged?

My summer training has been going well, it's been hard to get in a lot of mileage because I work at a summer camp but I've been working on racking it up the past few weeks! 35 miles per week is the average for what I've been trying to hit.

What are you looking forward to during the 2023 XC season?

I'm looking forward to building another successful team and having a fun season with my teammates! I think we have a ton of potential to do well and I'm looking forward to us running in some big races.

What are your goals for the season?

My goals for the season are to continue to grow as an athlete and a person. I am looking forward to being challenged by other girls in the state to do my best for my team and to win another team state title.

The biggest takeaway from the 2022 XC Season?

My biggest takeaway from the 2022 XC season is to be grateful for what I have and be grateful for every opportunity I have to run with my team. My team was able to find success last season but the state meet also taught me through the Cape girls' unfortunate sickness they had going around that you can't take everyone being healthy for granted but also to always give your best with what you have.

How do you stay motivated when you don't want to go for a run?

My biggest motivation when I don't want to go for a run is thinking about what other girls in the state are doing how consistent training will be how I am able to keep up with them. I also often feel like I am letting my team down if I'm not putting in full effort to training so that I can have the best season possible.
