Blog #2 – GOALS:

I remember reading the interview here on Milesplit with Matt McClintock after what I believe was his final high school race at New England Outdoors. When asked what advice he would give to younger runners, he said to take running seriously every year in high school because it takes your full focus and dedication to be great. He said that was his one regret: not putting in his full effort to training and his lifestyle until the later years of his high school career. Now in his first year of college, he was the top freshman in the Big 10 conference championships. And now he's going to the World Junior cross country championships. Incredible. He is a true beast and deserves every bit of his success (shout-out Matt).

That interview came at the beginning of my training in the summer 2012. He said that he wanted to be an Olympian someday. Part of a world juniors team is a start for sure. Him making the team really shows where dedication can take you. His fire and determination to succeed and set big goals inspires me to do well in my own right, at my own level; I look to my own determination as why I enjoyed some small success after that summer of hard training. I’m too old now to make a World Junior team and I’m certainly not on the level to even think about making the team, even if I could compete. So here are my own goals for the Winter, Spring and Summer of 2012:

-       Sub 1:14 for half marathon

-       Top 75 in the Stockholm Marathon

-       Run 100 miles/week twice (or more)

-       All-Region in Cross Country

Some of these are more reasonable than others; I’m crossing my fingers that I’ll reach most of them. With some McClintock® determination, I know I can. What are your goals? Let’s support each other in achieving all we want and dream to.

PS I found out that “hej do” isn’t the correct spelling last night in Swedish class. So here’s the right one:

Hejdå!
