The Windham girls finished 7th in the Western Maine Regional a year ago before going on to finish 10th in the Class A championships. The Eagles return 5 of their top 7 from the state meet a year ago as they look to make the jump up the rankings in 2013. Coach Riddle is pleased with the dedication of his returning girls and newcomers to the program.
The Eagles were led by Mackenzie Joy (28st) at the Class A state meet in 2012. Windham also has junior Lauren Linevitch (32nd) & sophomore Julia Rand (46th) in the lineup giving them a strong top 3. At the recent Lake Region Invitational, the Eagles took the team title behind a 2,3,4 finish from Rand, Linevitch, & Joy. Also looking to make an impact is sophomore Alexis WIntle (56th) a year ago in the state meet, and another sophomore Joelle Bockus is ready for a breakout after being a jv runner a year ago, Bockus was the 4th runner for the Eagles at LR Invitatonal as she finished 9th.
Windham has been a program on the rise, the Eagles has a big post-season in 2010 & 2011 that saw them finish 3rd in the Western Regional before going on to a 6th place finish at the state meet both years, last year they returned to the state meet where they finished 10th. The talent is their for Windham to get back to the 2010 -2011 level and beyond.
Coach Riddle says
"We are in the process of setting our seasons vision as we continue to knock off goals we set after last season. Our goal is simple, we work to win. Winning the meet against our opponents is the weekly goal, however, within that each contributing member wins by marked improvement. The teams season goal is to again represent Windham Athletics and WHS by earning the right to race in the state meet as a team, our vision has us extending our season late into the fall, time will tell the story."
