SMAA Action: Marston 2:17.73 800m, Rusak 12-11 vault highlight action

The SMAA welcomed 3 PVC/EMITL school down to compete today as they have been unable to compete due to UMaine fieldhouse still being under constuction. There were some fine performances highlighted by a league record by Kialeigh Marston of Bonny Eagle who ran 2:17.73. Scarborough freshman Sam Rusak jumped 12-11 in the vault good for a Class A leading mark.  There were several other Class A leading marks, Shannon Conley (SP) in the mile, Kiera Murray (Cheverus) 2 mile.

SMAA: Biddeford, Cheverus, Portland, South Portland, & TA

With a heavy snow coming down Thornton ACademy & Biddeford didn't attend the meet, while Cheverus & Portland only had a select few.

Meredith Willard of Cheverus was a standout taking the 55m in 7.64 which is Class A #3, she also won the 200m in 27.42 which is another Class A #3 mark.

Shannon Conley of South Portland ran a seasonal best 5:24.75 then doubled back to win the 800m in 2:29.96. Her time in the mile is Class A #1, and state #3.

Kiera Murray of Cheverus ran Class A #1 & state #2 in the 2 mile with a 11:34.01 clocking.

Ben Michaud of South Portland won the long jump with an indoor personal best of 20-0, that marks ranks Class A #3

Duncan Preston of South Portland the current Class A #2 won the shot put battle with Class A #3 Nick White of Cheverus 46-7 1/4 to 45-10 1/2

Class A Triple jump leader Michael Cuesta of South Portland won again this time leaping 42-3 1/4

Girls Highlights

Kialeigh Marston a sophomore from Bonny Eagle broke the jr 800 league record by almost 7 seconds, the former record was a 2:24.6 run by Kim Whipkey of Deering back in 2000. Marston clocked a Class A leading 2:17.73, the mark is US #24. Her time was also faster than the sr 800m record held by current Deering standout Edie Pallozzi.

Speaking of Pallozzi, she had a big day too. First in the 600yd she clocked a SMAA leading 1:31.43, the mark is US#3., She would double back to win the sr. 800m in a seasonal best 2:22.07, which is a Class A #2 mark.

Brittney Arsenault of Westbrook won the Sr 55m in 7.77 then added a 64.11 to win the 400m.

Boys Highlights

Deering's Hany Ramadan had a huge day with a 1:16.82 in the 600yd, good for a US #2 ranking, he came back showing great range with a 2:02.71 clocking, that mark is Class A #3. Additional he jumped 19-3 to win the long jump, then ran a leg on the winning 4x200m relay which ran 1:36.77, a Class A #3 mark.

Yayhe Hussein was a double winner taking the mile in 4:46.59 then adding a two mile victory with a 10:27.79 effort.

Girls Highlights

Windham's senior 4x200m relay set a state leading 1:53.10 effort while Massabesic ran State & Class A #2 time of 10:33 to win the 4x800 relay.

Lonnie Staten of Windham won the shot put with a 34-1 3/4 throw, the mark is Class A #2, and State #3.

 

Boys Highlights

Scarborough senior 4x200m relay clocked State & Class A #2 time with a 1:34.86, the junior team ran a SMAA leading 1:40.88.

In the pole vault freshman Sam Rusak of Scarborough jumped a Class A leading 12-11, that is State #2, and ranks him US#3 for freshman

Colin Jones of Scarborough ran a quick 600yd with a SMAA #3 & US#3 effort 1:17.96

Jacob Terry won the mile with a huge personal best, his time was 4:36.07, good for Class A #3 effort
