Looking Back: 2013-14 Top Junior Boys Indoor Track

The Class of 2015 brought home 3 individual state titles this winter. Jake Dixon of Cheverus was the best in the 200m in Class A, he ran the fastest time in the state. South Portland's Michael Cuesta was the Class A champion in the triple jump, he also had the best  jump in the state this winter. Belfast's Owen Falvey was the Class B champion in the high jump. There were several other standouts who were on the podium in their respective events at the state meet. Next year watch out for this class, there is plenty of talent across all the events.

Nicolas Boutin of Old Town had the fastest time for juniors in the 55m, clocking 6.71. He had the unfortunate fate of false starting in the state meet. In class Hunter Martin continued the strong tradition of Edward Little sprinters as he finished third in the Class A state meet. Thornton Academy's Derek Boissonnault 6.76 & Sumner's Baramee Janla  6.77 where the only others to run under 6.80. Boissonnault was 4th in Class A meet while Janla was the Class B runner-up.

200m

Cheverus's Jake Dixon was the only 200m sprinter in the state to break 23 seconds in 2013-14. Dixon clocked a personal best of 22.96 on the year, he was the Class A state champion, and placed 6th at the New England Championship in the 300m, where he just missed the Maine all-time best for the distance by .11 seconds. Old Town's Nicolas Boutin was the Class B state runner-up running a personal best 23.30. Newcomer Hunter Martin (Edward Little) made an impact with a third place finish in the Class A state meet.

Class A state runner-up Jake Dixon ran a personal best of 50.45 to lead the class of 2015. Deering's Hany Ramadan ran a 50.59 during the season but had to miss the postseason due to a hamstring injury. Scarborough's Jerry Kenney was the only othe junior to break 53 seconds, he ran 52.49 to finish third in Class A state meet.

Scarborough's Colin Jones had the fastest time of 2:02.39 on the year, he went on to finish 3rd in the Class A State meet. Brunswick's Chris Tanner ran a seasonal best 2:02.41 to place second in the Class A meet while Gorham's Jon Gray earned a fourth place finish in the A meet as well.

Waterville's Chris Cote posted the fastest time overall on the year with his 4:33.62, he would end his season with a third place in the Class B state meet. In Class A Caleb Lord of Hampden Academy ran a 4:33.70 during the season, he was the Class A state runner-up.

2 Mile

Cape Elizabeth's Mitch Morris went from a personal best of 11:00 to 9:36.51 in one season. Morris was third in the Class B state meet, he would go on to finish 11th in the New England Championship, where he was the second fastest runner from Maine. Scarborough's Jacob Terry made the most of his first indoor season, as he traded in his basketball sneakers for spikes en route to the Class A state title. Terry clocked a huge personal best at the New Englands where he broke the Scarborough school record. Also running well was Matt Malcolm of NYA who finished 5th in the Class B state meet, he then went on to pr in the NE's running 9:46.86. Waterville's Chris Cote also ran under 10 minutes, he was fourth in the Class B state meet running 9:52.64.

55m Hurdles

Biddeford's Justin Gagnon ran the fastest time in the state this season 7.84 to win the SMAA Championship. Bad luck struck at the state meet as he hit a hurdle in his qualifying race at the state meet, and didn't advance to the final. Scarborough's Maxim Doiron had a big year dropping his personal best from 9.13 to 8.33, his personal best came in the state meet where he placed 5th. Old Town's Charles Moody finished 6th in the Class B state meet, he ran a best of 8.45 on the season.

Long Jump

Andrew Smith of Thornton Academy jumped 21-1 during the regular seasob, the jump was the second best in the state this winter. Injury struck Smith so he was unable so he was unable to compete the last month of the season. Michael Cuesta of South Portland was third in the Class A state meet, he was followed by Dylan Smith of TA who jumped a personal best 20-2 1/4 to place 4th. York's Jordan Pidgeon leaped 19-10.25 to finish third in the Class B state meet.

Triple Jump

With the state title wrapped up Michael Cuesta made the most of his last attempt at the Class A state meet, the junior set a huge personal best of 45-4 to dominate the event. The mark moved Cuesta to the #2 performer in state meet history. Biddeford's Justin Gagnon had a big day at the state mett as he jumped 41-0 1/4 to finish fourth in the Class A. York's Jordan Pidgeon came up big in the Class b state meet as he finished fourth jumping 40-11 1/2. Tyler Joy of Noble & Brad Morisette of Edward Little were the two others state qualifiers they placed 5th & 6th respectively in the A meet.

High Jump

Three juniors jumped 6-2 this winter. In Class B Owen Falvey of Belfast won the state title jumping his seasonal best of 6-2.  Right next to Falvey on the podium was MDI's Aaron Miller who cleared 6ft to finish second. In Class A, Jacob Schott of Cheverus was the state runner-up he cleared 6-0.

Pole Vault

Mt Ararat's Andrew McCrackcen led the class of 2015 in the vault, he cleared a best of 13ft to finish as the Class A state runner-up. Edward James of Scarborough, Mickenzy Ronco of Skowhegan & Sam Tobin of Thornton Academy all cleared 12ft, they finished 4th, 5th & 6th respectively.

Shot Put

Cheverus's Nick White had the best throw this season for the class of 2015, he had a personalrow over  best 49-9 1/2 at the Class A state meet to finish second. His leading throw almost didn't happen though but a mismeasurement of his his throw resulted in an extra attempt, and White took full advantage. Scarrborough's Hugh McSorley finished third in the Class A meet, he was the other junior to the throw over 49ft with his 49-4 1/4 effort. In Class B Darren Shi of Yarmouth was the state runner-up with his 48-1 1/2 personal best effort.
