Looking Back: 2013-14 Top Junior Girls Indoor Track

The junior class had plenty of success this winter, not only did they win state titles, but several state meet records were broken in the process. Leading the way was triple state champion Kate Hall, who is the best sprinter/jumper the state has ever seen. Hall had a record breaking year that saw her break state all-time best at 55m, 60m, & long jump. Tori Daigle was a double state champion, breaking the state meet record in the long jump. While Sarah Shoulta added two individual titles in Class B winning the 55m hurdles & pole vault. Westbrook's Brittany Arsenault crossed the finsh line first in the 400m at the Class A meet. Waterville's Kellie Bolduc was the B champ in the triple jump, while Bangor's Abby Reynolds was the best vaulter in the state on her way to the Class A title.

55m

Kate Hall ran the fastest 55m in state history this winter as she clocked 7.01. She went on to win the 55m Class B championship for the 3rd time in a row running a state meet record time on 7.05. Hall also broke the 60m dash record as she made the finals of the 60m at the New Balance Nationals. South Portland's Lauren Magnuson finished third in the Class A state meet, she ran a personal best 7.54. In class B Elizabeth Andrews of Wells finished third with a personal best 7.62.

Lake Region's Hall won the Class B state title in a state meet record of 25.36, she ran the fastest 200m in state history during the regular season as she clocked 25.09. Gorham's Kristin Benson was the Class A runner-up as she ran a personal best 27.23. Lauren Magnuson was 4th in the Class A meet clocking 27.32. Also scoring in the Class A meet were Heather Kendall of Lewiston & Tori Daigle of Thornton Acdemy who placed 6th & 7th respectively.

Westbrook's Brittney Arsenault ran away with the Class A title and in the process ran the fastest 400m time for the Class of 2015, her winning time was 61.53. Waterville's Lydia Roy was the Class B runner-up running a seasonal best 62.01, while Foxcroft Academy's Fer Morrison placed 4th with her best time of 62.77.

Bonny Eagle's Kyuanna Libby was the top junior in the 800m this winter, Libby had a best time of 2:24.39, she also finished third in the Class A state meet. Cheverus's Georgia Caso was the only other half-miler to dip under the 2:30 mark, she did so with a 2:29.0 effort at the state meet which placed her 9th. In Class B Eva Brydson was a surprise podium finisher as she finished third place in the state meet with a personal best 2:34.10

Once again Kyuanna Libby of Bonny Eagle leads the way for the Class of 2015, Libby was the only junior to break 5:30 for the 8 lap race, her best time was a 5:29.63. Emily Mason of Greely was the top state meet finisher in either class as she finished 5th in the Class B state meet. The only other state meet scorer in the mile was MDI'S Caroline Driscoll.

2 Mile

Lewiston Farhiyo Aden had a phenomal run to finish third in the Class A state meet, Aden set a huge personal best of 11:41.80 which was the fastest time for any junior this winter. NYA's Hannah Austin had a strong year running 11:43.96 during the season, she was third place in the Class B state meet. Massabesic's Gabby Johnson also ran under 12 minutes this winter as she hit 11:55.69 in the Class A state meet to finish just off the podium in 8th. Emily Mason & Haley Lawrence finished 6th & 7th respectively in the Class B meet.

55M Hurdles

The junior class is stacked with talented hurdlers. Thornton Academy's Tori Daigle had the second fastest time in the state of 8.50 this winter, she ran away with the Class A state title. In Class B, Waterville's Sarah Shoulta was the state champion running 8.76, her teammate and fellow junior Kellie Bolduc was third place just missing the 9 second barrier as she ran a lifetime best 9.02. Right behind Bolduc was Katie Cotton of John Bapst who ran 9.12 for 4th.

Long Jump

Both state champions were juniors this winter. Leading the way with the furthest jump ever in Maine history was Kate Hall, who jumped 19-11 1/2 to finish second in the New Balance High School National Championship. The mark earned Hall All-American honors. In the Class B state meet, she won the event for the third time in a row, in the process she broke the state meet record with her 19-3 3/4 effort.

In Class A Tori Daigle had a record breaking jump to win the state title, Daigle jumped 18-0 1/4 to break the mark of 17-10 set one jump before by Tiffany Gray of Bangor. Thornton Academy's Alexandra Pettaway was the only jumper over 16ft this winter, Pettaway best mark was 16-2 1/4, she placed 5th in the Class A state meet.

Triple Jump

Waterville's Kellie Bolduc jumped her seasonal best 36-2 1/2 to win the Class B state meet. In Class A Alexandra Pettaway was the top jumper with her 34-5 1/2 effort, she placed 5th in the state meet. Makayla Norcross of Edward Little was the only other state meet scorer, she placed 7th in the Class A meet.

High Jump

4 juniors cleared 5-0 this winter, and all 4 of them were on the podium at the state meet. Sarah Rinaldi of Scarborough was the Class A runner-up, while Nicole Nicholls of Medomak Valley placed 4th in the Class B meet. Also scoring in Class B was Hope Kohtala of Poland & Kellie Bolduc of Waterville, they tied for 5th place.

Pole Vault

Bangor's Abby Reynolds had the highest jump in the state this winter as the junior cleared 10-6 in winning the Class A state title. Messalonskee's Taylor Lenentine was the only other vaulter to clear 10ft, she placed second in the Class A meet. In Class B Sarah Shoulta was the state champion, she jumped a best of 9-6 1/4 on the season.

Shot Put

Fryeburg's Bailey Friedman had the top throw during the season of 34-10, she also was the highest junior finisher in either state meet as Friedman placed 4th in the Class B state meet. Katie Hughes of MCI was 5th in the B meet throwing a seasonal best fo 32-6. Macy Lee of Skowhegan was the only scorer in the Class A meet, Lee finished 7th. South Portland's Michelle Medici threw 34-0 during the regular season which was the second best throw amongst all juniors.
