2009-2014 Track Team Depth: Scarborough Boys top overall program

Scarborough leads the way in both indoor & outdoor (2009-2014)

For each event we scored it based on 5 runners/jumpers/throwers, just like a cross-country race would be scored. After the 16 individual events were scored we went back an assigned points to each team who was in the top 10, the top team scored a 10, while the 10th place team scored 1. Below you will see a spreadsheet score for each event, and see the teams ranked from highest score to lowest. As a side note state meet results from 2005-2008 were also included in these rankings.

 

Outdoor Analysis

Overall 43 teams registered at least a half of point. Leading the way was the Red Storm of Scarborough who scored in 12 of the 16 events, they tallied 78.5 to finish just ahead of fellow Class A rival Cheverus by 5.5 points. Scarborough finished ranked #1 in three events (1600, 3200 & Pole Vault), while also ranking second in the 800m, and third in the 110m hurdles.

The Stags of Cheverus, the second ranked program were tops in four events (200m, 800m, Shot Put & Discus) plus added second place team rankings in the (400m & 300M Hurdles, they scored a top ten ranking in 9 different events.

Waterville is the third ranked program, and top Class B team. The Panthers tallied 68 points overall, they ranked number one in two events (110m hurdles & triple jump), an additional were the second ranked program in the (HJ & Discus). Overall Waterville scored in 9 events.

Edward Little holds down the 4th spot with 63 points. The Red Eddies actually scored in 13 events the most of any team. EL was the top team in two events (Javelin & 1600m racewalk) while also ranking second in the 3200m.

Rounding out the top 5 programs was Falmouth with 58 points. The Yachtsmen moved to Class A this seaosn but has spent previous years in Class B. The Yachtsmen scored in 10 events, were the top team in the 400m, and the second ranked team in 200m.

Class A teams Bonny Eagle (49), Thornton Academy (48.5), Lewiston (43) & South Portland (32) where the remaining top 10 teams.

Orono was the top Class C school with 9 points.

Breaking things down a little by event group shows Falmouth the top sprint team with 26 points just ahead of Cheverus with 25. In the distance events Scarborough was just one point away from a perfect score of 30. In the hurdles, Bonny Eagle was the top squad with 19 points, while in the throws Cheverus showed its skill with 27 points. Waterville was the dominate team in the jumps, as they had a perfect score of 20 in the horizontal jumps (LJ/TJ), and then tallied 18 in the verticla jumps (PV & HJ)

Indoor Analysis

A total of thirty teams figured into the mix when looking at the top ten teams per event during the indoor track seasons, with 14 teams scoring more than 20 points. Leading the way was Scarborough with 71 points as the Red Storm registered points in 10 of 12 individual contested indoors. The success of Scarborough isn't surprising as during the 2009-2014 timeframe they have won the Class A indoor state title 5 times. The Red Storm had 4 events where they were the top program (800m, Mile, 2 mile & pole vault).

Brunswick the only other team to win a Class A state title during the 2009-2014 timeframe sits in second place with 51 points. The Dragons were first in the long jump, and second in both the 800m & pole vault, they scored in 8 events.

Falmouth who won 2 state titles in Class B is the third ranked program with 44 points. The Yachtsmen were the top team in the 400, while scoring points in 8 different events.

Bangor is the 4th ranked program with 41.5 points, the Rams tallied points in 8 events with a third place ranking in the 400m their top scoring event.

Deering rounds out the top 5 with 41 points. Despite scoring in just 6 events, the Rams held the top spot in the 55m, and were third ranked in the 55m hurdles.

Greely & Waterville are the highest rated Class B teams, both squads tallied 32 points to rank as the 8th best programs.

Breaking things down by event group shows Gorham leading the way in the sprints/hurdles with 30 points, while Falmouth with 28 points was the second ranked team. In the distance events, Scarborough swept the top spot for all three events, with Greely with 23 points the next best program. In the horizontal jumps (LJ/TJ) Brunswick was on top with 17 with Waterville a close second with 16 points. In the vertical jumps (HJ/PV) Scarborough was the top ranked program with 18.
