Scouting Reports: Thornton Academy Boys

The Thornton Academy boys indoor track team is coming off a 13-2 regular season from a year ago where they finished 2nd in the SMAA championship and tied for 8th in the Class A state championship.

"We were fairly young last year and now most of the top athletes are seniors and they know they need to really step up this year" longtime coach George Mendros said of last years squad.

The Trojans should excel in the sprints and jumps this winter. They return Andrew Smith who was the top Class A long jumper a year ago before suffering a hamstring injury that kept him out of the championship meet.

Who could break out this winter to provide a lift? Coach thinks Keegan Fowler and George Lett who had very good spring seasons should be much improved from last winter.

Thornton Academy has never won a boys indoor track state championship this years team has the senior leadership to get the job done, look for the Trojans to perform at a high level in the championship meets.

"I think we can finish near the top this year. We have some athletes who finish very high in the state meet and we need to take advantage of that."
