XC Watchlist: Paul Casavant - Hampden Academy

Athlete Name: Paul Casavant

School: Hampden Academy

Year of Graduation: 2017

2014 State Meet Finish: 9th in Class A 16:35.82

How long have you been running and how did you get started?

I started running the year before 8th grade. I played soccer before, but I had stopped enjoying it so much. My brother had started running a few years back and really loved it. I decided to give it a try and was hooked! If it hadn't been for my brother I wouldn't have started running.

Do you remember your first real race?

My first real race was the Warren Bishop Memorial run held as a time trials every year. It was just after my first summer running.

How is your summer training going?

My summer training is going great! I've been running, biking, rock climbing, and doing a bunch of other stuff.

What is your favorite workout?

My favorite workout would either be the Tour de Hills, a 4ish mile run with 7 huge hill sprints in the middle, or Michigans, which is just absolutely brutal!

Which meets will you be running in this year?

I'll be doing all the normal KVAC meets. Hopefully I'll make it back to New Englands!

Do you have a favorite course? What do you think is the toughest course in the state?

My favorite course would either be Belfast or Cony. I love how fast Belfast is, but Cony is just the perfect mix of hills and really tests you! The toughest is probably MCI. The ski hill is rough, then the mind numbingness of the golf course makes it difficult.

Out of all your running accomplishments so far, which stands out the most?

I would have to say my biggest accomplishment would be winning the mile in indoor states. It was my first state title, was a big PR, I broke a school record, and just thought I raced really well.

What are your goals for the upcoming cross country season?

This season I'd like to break 16, but most of all I'd just like to come back racing strong and showing I'm a serious competitor after my disappointing outdoor season.

What do you love most about running?

I love the feeling of being free when you run. Once you hit that perfect pace and your stride opens up, it feels absolutely incredible! Nothing can come close!

Do you have a favorite quote?

"Sweat is the cologne of achievement"

Do you have any pre-race rituals or routines?

I always eat a peanut butter, honey, and raisin sandwich with a nature valley bar before a mid or later day race.

What is your favorite food?

Vanilla Oreos

What was the last movie you saw and what did you think of it?

Kingsman: The Secret Service. Absolutely hilarious!

What brand of shoes do you train/race in?

I train in Inov-8 f-lite 195s. I race in Saucony Shays, which I need to get a new pair of!

What professional athlete would you like to meet the most?

Alan Webb

What is something most people don't know about you?

I traveled to India when I was 9 to adopt my little sister.

Lastly, if you were stranded on an island with three things what would they be?

A boat, food, and my running shoes.
