Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln Maine is hosting the 2015 PVC Championship meets this weekend. 23 boys teams and nearly 180 runners will attack the rain soaked 3 mile course. The boys course record is 17:08.

PVC Large School Predictions

Chathu Karunasiri of Caribou, Jason Bartley of Presque Isle and Evan Desmond of Caribou all enter this race with sub 18:00 5k times. Caribou's Karunasiri is the predicted winner edging out Bartley 17:36 to 17:42. This course is very muddy in spots and may bunch the field. This race could come down to who has the strongest kick. Caribou runners Caleb Hunter, Daniel Randolph and Tsion Macleod should finish near the front as a group. Gabe Piquette of Foxcroft Academy coming off a nice win at the Riot Challenge could finish in the top 6 overall. Look for Peter Philbrook of MDI, Conner Archer of Old Town and Matt Frost and Richie Matthews both of Ellsworth to finish in the top 10.

The Viking Pack won the title last year scoring 39 points. Caribou is expected to better that score this year with 20 points. Old Town should finish 2nd with 88 followed by MDI's 98. Caribou is predicted to finish 1,3,4,5,7.

PVC Small School Predictions

John Hassett the Jr. from GSA is having a great season. He has the fastest 3 mile time of 15:49 in Class C and the quickest 5k in Class C of 16:27. John should defend his title and win again this year. Hassett should easily break the course record of 17:08. Tristan Butterfield of Orono and Isaiah Brown have met earlier this year and the race was decided by 1 second. Look for these guys to finish 2nd and 3rd with an exciting finish. Ollie Dillon of GSA, Matt Kersey of Orono and Will Entwisle of GSA should also finish strong as a group. Orono's Will O'neil, Gavin Mcdonald, Jonathan Steelman and Lowell Ruck are predicted to round out the top 10 runners overall. Bucksport's Skyler Fraga has a great shot at breaking into the top 10.

Orono won the title last year and is predicted to win it again this year scoring 27 points. The GSA boys are predicted to score 30. This will be an exciting championship race. GSA is predicted to finish 1,3,5,10,11. Orono is predicted 2,4,6,7,8. Lee Academy and Host Mattanawcook Academy will battle for 3rd. LA is predicted to score 114 and MA 117. Another close race. Good luck everyone!
