Similar to last week's southern Maine regional championship Gorham sophomore Anna Slager found herself in a pace of three at the two mile mark. One runner was familiar in Kialeigh Marston, while one runner was new, Katherine Leckbee of Mt Ararat.

Last week Slager was able to pull away at the "Pain Cave" and followed the same strategy on Saturday.

"It was a pace that allowed a good finish." Slager said of the pace during the opening miles.

A fast finish is exactly what Slager had, as she powered down the home stretch in full flight, stopping the clock at 19:42.90 to win by 10 seconds.

"It was fun, we were going back and forth, some one would surge on the downhills, and another on the uphills." Slager said of the final mile.

Mt Ararat's Katherine Leckbee had another strong postseason race as she ran to a runner-up finish in 19:52.24 to hold off Kialeigh Marston of Bonny Eagle, 19:53.41

South Portland's Serena McKenzie was under 20 minutes as she finished 4th in 19:58.19. Northern Maine regional champion Anne Guadalupi of Cony rounded out the top 5.

Bonny Eagle won its third state title in the last four years as the Scots scored 58 to beat 2014 state champion Scarborough by 28 points.

The Scots were lead by Martson's third place finish but got great runs from freshman Ami Beaumier (6th) & senior Elisabeth Redwood (7th). Redwood ran another personal best this time by 17 seconds, and improved from 12th in the regionals. Freshman Abby Nelson was 21st while classmate Kayla Raymond rounded out the scoring for the Scots in 35th.

Raymond who ran as Bonny Eagle's #2 runner last week, ran the race in great discomfort as she developed a side stitch early on. She was 20 spots back of Scarborough's #5 runner at 2 miles, but came up big over the last mile to move up 16 spots securing the win.
