Travis Snyder breaks New England Freshman Pole Vault Record

Travis Snyder breaks New England Freshman Pole Vault Record

Thornton Academy freshman Travis Snyder broke Sam Rusak's two year old New England & Maine freshman pole vault record with a 13-6 clearance at the Vaultarama last Saturday in Westborough, MA.

Snyder had a strong freshman year that saw him finish 5th in the Class A Indoor State Championship. He jumped a best of 12-6 during the indoor season. Outdoors saw Snyder continue to improve as he jumped a best of 12-7 during the regular high school season. He would go on to finish fourth in the Class A Outdoor State Championship, before going on to clear 12-6 at the New England Championship to place 10th.

After the high school season was over Snyder has continued to vault. He set a new lifetime best on June 19th at the USATF Maine Junior Olympic Championship clearing 13-0 1/4.

Last Saturday things clicked once again as Snyder cleared a personal best 13-6 which put his name in the record books. According to his father Paul, the Falmouth High School vault coach bad winds stopped the meet, so Travis never got to attempt 14-0.

This Friday Snyder will be back on the runway at Holy Cross for the USATF New England Championship.
