MACE/GEOHEGAN SHINE; MT ARARAT GIRLS AND MT BLUE BOYS WIN AT BRUNSWICK

Abby Mace of Maranacook ran virtually uncontested and Will Geohegan pulled away in the final mile as they each earned impressive individual victories in a KVAC meet in Brunswick.

Mace went through the mile in 5:54 and the two mile in 12:10 to finish with a final time of 19:07, nearly a minute ahead of runner-up Melody Lam (pictured right) of Mt. Blue who covered the distance in 20:00.  Brunswick's Katie McMahon returned to action with an impressive 20:09.  Kate Spies and Emma Wood of Mt. Ararat took the next two spots.

Superior depth helped Mt. Ararat girls earn 1st place as a team with 46 points.  Brunswick, finally back at full strength edged Mt. Blue (running without #4 runner Louisa Stancioff) for 2nd place 59-62 with rapidly improving Maranacook close behind with 68.  Lawrence nipped Morse by a single point for 5th.

In the boys race, Brunswick's Geohegan and Mt. Blue's Kelton Cullenberg went though the mile in 4:52.  Geohegan was at 10:01 for two miles with Cullenberg 4 seconds back.  Geohegan gradually pulled away over the final mile to finish in 15:52. Cullenberg was 2nd in 16:09, while Morse's Jason Kaake(Pictured left) took 3rd in 16:24.  Brunswick's Liam Cassidy was 4th.  Mt. Blue's Brody Hines finished strong over the latter half of the race and edged Sebastian Peters of Lawrence for 5th.

The Mt. Blue boys continued to improve, with five runners coming in the top 15 and under 18:30 to defeat previously undefeated Brunswick (running without #3 man George Mills) 45-54.  Mt. Ararat was just a bit back with 59.  Morse had 75.  Maranacook (running without #1 runner Jared Greeley) took 5th with Lawrence in sixth.
