All-Time Maine Boys Shot Put Programs

All-Time Shot Put Programs

We've been working to expand our vast results database this summer adding in several state championship meets dating back to 1996, and the plan is to continue throughout the summer.  While we don't have every team's top athletes of all-time we wanted to take a look at the data we had to see what programs (schools) had the top performers in every track and field event outdoors.

We scored each team just like a cross-country meet, giving 1 point for the fastest time and so on. A program's score is based on the top five performers in the event with the top 7 athletes acting as displacers.

Today we are going to take a look at the boy's shot put. Below are the top five programs based on the results we currently have in the database. For the complete list of 101 teams visit the link below.

COMPLETE LIST

Brewer holds the top spot in the shot put with results back through 1995. The Witches are led by Austin Lufkin who threw a personal best 59-4 1/2, he currently ranks sixth-best all-time in state outdoor history. Behind him, Garrett Graham tossed it 55-10 1/2, while Jacob McCluskey had a best of 53-5 1/2. All five scoring athletes for Brewer were 52 feet and further, they averaged an impressive 54-9 1/2 per thrower.

The Stags of Cheverus are the second-ranked program behind Ben Michaud's 56-9 effort. The White brothers are a big reason for Cheverus's success they rank 2-3-4 with John White's 54-2 1/2 leading the way. The Stags had five scoring throwers over 52-0 1/4, averaging 53-8 1/2 per thrower.

South Portland paced by state record holder Daniel Guiliani's 71-1 1/2 personal best ranks as the third-best program, although if we had results from the '70s & '80s it's likely the Red Riots would be the number ranked team. SP has four throwers over 50 feet in their scoring five and aided by Guiliani's monster throw they averaged 56-1 1/4 per thrower.

The Tigers of Biddeford are currently ranked fourth as a program and are led by the second-best shot putter in state history Matt Brady. Brady threw a 64-3 3/4 personal best effort. Behind him, four other Tigers have been  50-5 1/2 or further, including most recently Jared Pierce

Mt. Desert Island rounds out the top five programs with 2019 graduate Gilbert Isaacs leading way with his personal best 55-9 3/4. MDI has had four athletes throw 52-9 or further.
