All-Time Discus Programs
We've been working to expand our vast results database this summer adding in several state championship meets dating back to 1995, and the plan is to continue throughout the summer. While we don't have every team's top athletes of all-time we wanted to take a look at the data we had to see what programs (schools) had the top performers in every track and field event outdoors.
We scored each team just like a cross-country meet, giving 1 point for the fastest time, and so on. A program's score is based on the top five performers in the event with the top 7 athletes acting as displacers.
Today we are going to take a look at the girl's discus. Below are the top five programs based on the results we currently have in the database. For the complete list of 98 teams visit the link below.
COMPLETE LIST
The Greely Rangers are the top-ranked program with state record holder Becky O'Brien leading the way with 161-11. Behind her Alyssa Coyne, 127-0, and Katherine Harrington 124-3 each were over 120 feet. Greely averaged 125-1 1/2 for their scoring five.
The Golden Trojans of Thornton Academy are the second-ranked program coming in just behind Greely. Jaigan Boudreau leads the way with 125-9 personal best while Brynn Smith is second-ranked at 123-6. TA averaged 120-0 for their five scorers.
Waterville ranks third as a program with Danielle Fossa leading the way with her toss of 123-0. Behind her two more Purple Panthers threw over 120 feet, Sarah Cox 121-9 and Rachel Bergeron 120-0.
Falmouth is the next program with Adelaide Cooke's 131-0 personal best leading the way. Cooke ranks 8th best all-time. If we figured in school record holder Jessica Beal's 131-7 and Christine Berube's 131-3 which happened in 1992, the Yachtsmen would be the top-ranked program.
Rounding out the top programs is Cheverus with Meaghan Morris leading the way with her 122-8 personal best. Katie Shapiro ranks second for the Stags with her 120-10.1 effort.
