WBW: Luke Laverdiere Wins Southern Maine XC Classic
Today we back at the inaugural Southern Maine XC Classic in 2017. The meet featured three races per gender with competitors split between an unseeded race, freshman/sophomore race, and junior/senior race with 409 finishers on the boys' side with 23 teams recording a score.
Yarmouth senior Luke Laverdiere scorched the course on the trails behind the Narragansett School in Gorham as he covered 5k in a blistering 15:17.85 to set the course record. Laverdiere battled with Jack Yanko from Amherst, Massachusetts for much of the first mile before pulling away in the middle of the race to record a twenty-second victory.
Greely High School dominated the boys' team race as they recorded sixty-nine points to win by eighty-three points over Falmouth.
