2020 Maine XC Watchlist: Chris Walton, Biddeford


Notable Finishes: 2nd Hoka Southern Maine Classic F/S 2019, 15th Festival of Champions 2019, 7th Southern Maine Regional 2019, & 15th Class A State 2019

Comments: Walton made the jump last fall going from 39th in the Southern Maine Regional as a freshman to 15th in the Class A state meet as a sophomore. He clocked a personal best of 16:27.69 for 5k last fall at the Festival of Champions where he finished 15th overall. Expect Walton to continue his progression this fall after a strong indoor track season that saw him place 5th in the 800m.


How has COVID-19 affected you?

COVID has affected me a lot but not in a bad way it has given me more time to train and get better.

What has your summer training consisted of? How much mileage are you putting in?

High mileage 40-50 mile weeks.

What are your goals for the upcoming season?

Break 16.

What is your favorite workout that makes you feel most prepared for success?

800-meter repeats got to love them.

What did you learn from the last xc season that will help you improve in 2020?

How to race and when to make the moves. Also how to do A and B skips.

How is your team looking for the fall?

Everyone has been working hard and I can't wait to see how we will progress from last year.

How do you stay motivated when you don't want to run?

Listen to music and think to myself that people will see my Strava.

What is the greatest piece of advice you've ever received in the sport?

If it hurts run faster - Coach Ouellette

What are the top three "little things" that you do to prevent injury?

Stretching, ice baths, and scraping.

What is the one thing you have done during COVID-19 that you have never had time for in the past?

Become a better Fortnite player.

What's the farthest you've ever run at one time?

I did a 16 miler but I also walked a marathon with Sam M, Aiden W, Liam W, Alec T.

If every day were a holiday, what would yours be?

Christmas is cool.

Favorite subject in school?

Math.

If you could go on a run with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be? Why?

Craig Engels, I think it would be a great experience.

If your teammates gave you a superlative, what would it be?

Most likely to win the spelling bee.
