Comments: Barry will look to lead the Red Storm this fall after a 13th place finish as a sophomore. He ran a best of 16:21 a year ago and showed in a recent time trial effort that he's ready to challenge that this fall. Zach will be a top-five contender this fall after putting in a strong summer of training. During the indoor track season, he ran 1:57.12 for 800m and was a state meet scorer in the mile and 800m.
How has COVID-19 affected you?
COVID has been interesting, in March NBNI 2020 was canceled where I would've run the 800 leg on the SMR. Minecraft, 2k, and Fornite got me through quarantine.
What has your summer training consisted of? How much mileage are you putting in?
My summer mileage has consisted of weeks and weeks of slow build-up to about 60 miles max.
What are your goals for the upcoming season?
My goals for the upcoming season are to win the team championship and do everything I possibly can to ensure that.
What is your favorite workout that makes you feel most prepared for success?
My favorite workout is the Hunnewell hill workout which is about a 6k tempo that we do over a little circle near the high school.
What did you learn from the last xc season that will help you improve in 2020?
I learned that grit wins championships, the kid and team that is willing to suffer the most over the course of the summer, season, and races will be the winners of the state championship.
How is your team looking for the fall?
Our team is looking great as of now. Lots of guys have been putting in serious work over the summer and are ready for a good season
How do you stay motivated when you don't want to run?
To stay motivated I have to look back at why I do it. Why I want to push my self to the edge, what my goals are, and how to achieve them.
What is the greatest piece of advice you've ever received in the sport?
The greatest piece of advice I've ever heard is a simple one learned from a young age, "have fun with it."
What are the top three "little things" that you do to prevent injury?
I try and sleep a solid 8-10 hours of sleep every night and stretch almost every day.
What is the one thing you have done during COVID-19 that you have never had time for in the past?
What's the farthest you've ever run at one time?
The farthest I've ever run is 15 miles with my teammate Ben Cassellius.
If every day were a holiday, what would yours be?
If every day were a holiday I would have it be sports day where every professional league has to have a game played.
My favorite subject in school is English, every once in a while I can get behind reading a good book and writing an essay.
If you could go on a run with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be? Why?
I would run with Steve Prefontaine, the grittiest runner of all time.
