CapeElizabeth (#2 ranked) The Capers are once again undefeated in the state of Maine. The defending Western Maine champs will be looking to make it 3 titles in a row. Last year they scored an impressive 21 points, taking 2-3-4-5-7. While they may not repeat last year’s performance, they are the clear favorite to win. Cape is led by senior Emily Attwood, who is the favorite to win the individual title this year; if she wins it would be here 2nd WMC title.
York (#6 ranked) The Wildcats have had a strong year, with their only losses coming at the hands of Cape who they have raced three times so far this year. York is led by Michaela Swiatek, who will be shooting for a top 5 finish.
Falmouth (Unranked) The Yachtswomen have been ranked in the top 10 this year, but fell out this week. They will be looking to rebound after an off day the Festival of Champions.They have the advantage of racing on their home course this week.
The WMC championship is considered the top league in the state, and the rankings of the top teams give creed to that claim. With 4 of the top 9 teams in the latest MaineTrackXC fan/athlete poll, and a 5th team that has been ranked this year, there will be a lot of top talent toeing the line at Falmouth’s CommunityPark.
Greely (#2 ranked) The Rangers will be looking to make it three WMC titles in a row. Greely defeated #4 ranked CapeElizabeth two weeks ago at Manchester. They are led by Logan Price, who is one of the favorites to contend for the individual title. The Rangers are the team favorite heading into the meet.
CapeElizabeth (#4 ranked) The Capers have their work cut out for them if they are going to win the title this fall. They fell to Greely at the Manchester invite two weeks ago, but will looking to go out at a smarter pace this time. Cape has been led most of the year by junior Reid Douty. They will need a strong race from the supporting cast to challenge Greely.
Falmouth (#8 ranked) The Yachtsmen will be looking to challenge Cape & Greely on their home course this week. They finished 7th in the FOC last weekend, and are led by top individual Tim Follo, who will be looking for a top 3 finish. Falmouth relies on a tight pack from their 2-6 runners.
York (#9 ranked) The Wildcats will be looking to break into the top 3 teams for the first time since 2005; York was 5th place last year. They are led by Alex Moser, who will be looking to capture his first WMC individual title. York has a strong pack behind Moser which will be the key to their success.
