Maine Boys 2020 Cross-Country All-Junior Team

The 2020 Maine cross-country was well beyond unique due to COVID-19, starting with a late start to the season, wave starts during meets, and of course, ending before the state meet. Despite all the changes the class of 2022 had plenty of success on the trails this fall. These five individuals below were the juniors that we thought stood out this fall among all their peers.

Grady Satterfield (Mt Ararat)

Satterfield had an excellent junior season that saw him win two races. On the season Grady hit a personal best of 15:54.90 on the season. At the KVAC Class A South race he finished second running the second-fastest time overall in the league of 16:58. After the season he clocked a 15:22 for 5k on the track in a time-trial. Satterfield will return as one of the favorites in Class A next fall.

Zachary Barry (Scarborough)

Barry had a very consistent and successful fall that saw him win three races and run under 17 minutes for 5k in each of his five races. His best 5k was a 16:01.70 effort at Brunswick. Zach finished as the SMAA Cumberland County runner-up helping his Red Storm team to the title. Look for Barry to contend for the Class A title in 2021.

Abbott Valentine (Hampden Academy)

The bigger the race the better Valentine ran in 2020. On the season he won three races including the Maine Festival of Champions and the KVAC Class A North race. Abbott's fastest 5k on the season was a 16:05.37 effort. He'll be one to watch in Class A next fall.

Daniel McCarthy (Bangor)

McCarthy was less than 100% this fall but still put together a strong junior season that saw him run a 5k best of 16:12.21. McCarthy led the Rams at the KVAC Class A North race where he finished second helping his Rams team to a dominating team win. The Rams were the team favorite heading into the state meet that never happened. McCarthy will be back next fall as one of the favorites.

Calvin Cummings (Gorham)

Cummings won three races this fall and recorded a 5k best of 16:28.30. He ran 16:33.9 or faster three times on the season. At the SMAA Cumberland County Championship Calvin finished fourth overall. He helped lead his Rams squad to a spot in the state meet as well. Look for even more from Cummings in 2021.
