Maine Boys 2020 Cross-Country All-Senior Team

The 2020 Maine cross-country was well beyond unique due to COVID-19, starting with a late start to the season, wave starts during meets, and of course, ending before the state meet. Despite all the changes the class of 2021 had plenty of success on the trails this fall. These five individuals below were the seniors that we thought stood out this fall among all their peers.

Ben Greene (Falmouth)

In just his second cross-country Falmouth's Ben Greene turned back all competitors during an undefeated season. Greene, who signed his National Letter of Intent to the University of Colorado ran the fastest 5k on the trails this fall with his 15:43 effort. At the SMAA Cumberland County Championship, he easily pulled away from the field over the last 800m to win comfortably in the process helping the Yachtsmen qualify for the state meet as a team. He was one of the individual favorites entering the Class A state meet.

Tyler Patterson (Brunswick)

Patterson took his running to another level this fall winning the KVAC Class A title and clocking a 5k personal best of 15:53 on the trails. Tyler who will attend Cornell University next fall entered the state meet as one of the favorites, and if his 5k on the track a few weeks ago was any indication he was ready to win. Patterson broke the state outdoor 5k record in New Hampshire running 14:51.66.

Gordon Doore (Bangor)

Doore had a strong senior season that saw him win two races. Gordon ran a 5k personal best of 16:08.81 on the season. He ran to a third-place finish in the KVAC Class A North race and fifth overall in the conference. Gordon was a key runner on the top-ranked Bangor team who entered the state meet as the team favorites to win the school's first state title.

Erik LoSacco (Scarborough)

LoSacco was very consistent this fall finishing in the top three of every race he ran along with crossing the line first on his home course at Smiling Hill Farm once. Erik finished third at the SMAA Cumberland County Championship running 16:18 helping his Red Storm team to the title.

Sam Wilson (Greely)

Wilson ran undefeated this fall winning all five of his races. At the WMC Class B Championship Sam pulled away from Martin Horne in the final stages to win in a personal best 16:26.34. Wilson led his Greely Ranger team to the team title and heading into the state meet he was the individual favorite.
