Sprints
55m - Cape Elizabeth senior Tori Hews is the top seed and favorite to win the event. Hews won the WMC title last week clocking a personal best 7.58. KVAC Class B champion Emma Burr comes in with a 7.76, she's followed by Cassidy Hanson of Central at 7.77. Hanson set a new personal best winning the PVC-EMITL small school title. Greely's Elle Jowett ran a personal best 7.79 finishing as the WMC runner-up. Poland's Ellen Marquis-Boutin is the only returning finalist from 2020 where she placed 8th.
200m - Greely's Elle Jowett has the top seed time at 27.42, right behind her is Tori Hews at 27.44. Jowett didn't race the 200m at the conference meet, Hews took the title in 27.47. Greely sophomore Abigail Jacobson is the third seed at 28.06 with Cony's Emma Brown next at 28.08. Jacobson only ran in the 55m at WMC meet, while Brown won the KVAC Class B title over fifth seed Emma Burr by .01. The battle for spots 3-5 will be one to watch.
400m- Jowett is the top seed at 62.04 as she clocked a new personal best in winning the WMC Championship meet last week. Sherry Foster of John Bapst was the PVC-EMITL large school runner-up, and enters with a best time of 63.83. Ada Fisher of Central is the third seed at 65.44m she won the PVC-EMITL small school title last week.
55m Hurdles - Defending champion Alexandra Brent of York is the top seed at 8.85 as she looks to win her second consecutive hurdle title. Brent is the only one in the field that has run under nine seconds this season. Old Town junior Grace Willey has run 9.07 this winter, that is the same time she ran two years to place sixth in the event. Willey was the PVC-EMITL large school runner-up last week. Ellsworth senior Paige Sawyer ran a personal best 9.16 to win the PVC-EMITL large school title over Willey. Cony senior Kristen Kirk enters with the fifth-fastest time of 9.44, she won the KVAC Class B title last week and placed seventh in the event in 2020.
Distance
800m- Freshman Amelia Vandongen of MDI has the fastest seed time at 2:23.17, she won the PVC-EMITL title a week ago. Look for Grace Kirk of Cony to be up to challenge, Kirk has run 2:23.45 this season, and tuned up for the state meet winning the 400m in the KVAC Class B meet. The defending champion Brent can't be counted out she comes in as the fourth seed at 2:28.40, she has run under 2:20 this season out of state and certainly has shown championship pedigree in the past. 2020 runner-up Bri Harriman of Cony is also in the race, she has a best of 2:29.08 this season.
Mile - This should be a great race with York sophomore Cary Drake, George Stevens Academy junior Thea Crowley, and senior Eleanor Tyne of Orono. Drake has run undefeated all season is coming off her seasonal best in the mile winning the WMC title in 5:18.21. Crowley won the PVC-EMITL small school meet, she enters with a time of 5:20.09. Tyne was the runner-up to Crowley a week ago, she has a seed time of 5:24.34 and was the 2020 runner-up in the event.
2 Mile - Just like the mile this will be a Crowley versus Drake battle. Crowley is the top seed at 11:20.16, while Drake is the seeded second at 11:30.16. Both won their conference titles and not much separates these two.
Jumps
Long Jump- Sophomore Natasha Monreal of Bucksport has the furthest jump in the field with a 16-4 1/2. Monreal won the PVC-EMITL small school title. Grace Willey of Old Town won the PVC-EMITL large school title last week with her best leap of the season. Willey jumped 16-0 3/4 in 2020 to place 5th in the event. Cony's Emma Brown is coming off a personal best 15-4 1/4 winning the KVAC Class B meet, John Bapst junior Paige Inforati has the same 15-4 1/4 to her name this winter.
Triple Jump- Cony senior Bri Harriman is the top seed with a leap of 32-8 1/2. Harriman was the KVAC runner-up. Sophomore Madison Yakimchick of Waterville leaped 32-6 3/4 to set a personal best and win the KVAC over Harriman. Lake Region's Abigail Roberts won the WMC title jumping a personal best of 32-6.
High Jump- Defending champion Lia Frazee of Belfast is back to defend her title she enters with 5-4 clearance. Frazee won the KVAC Class B title last week. Cony's Kristen Kirk will look to challenge for the win, she's was the runner-up to Frazee last week, and has 5-3 clearance to her name this winter. Kirk placed third in 2020. Autumn Gerry of St Dom's has also cleared 5-2 this season, she won the WMC championship last week.
Pole Vault- This will be a close event that could be determined by the number of misses. Lia Frazee of Belfast, Molly Cobbs of Freeport and Olivia Marsanskis of Greely all have cleared 10 feet this season. Frazee jumped 10 feet last week to win the KVAC Class B meet. Marsanskis won the WMC title over Cobbs vaulting 10 feet. She placed fifth in the event in 2020.
Throws
Shot Put - Junior Lorenza Piper of Gray-New Gloucester is the top seed with a best distance of 34-1 1/4, she is coming off a win at WMC Championship. Old Town's Chelsey Cote has thrown 34-1 this season but was just fifth in the PVC-EMITL large school meet. MCI senior Jillian Michaud is the next seed she has a best of 32-4 and won the KVAC Class B title last week. Senior Alyssa Maguire of Bucksport is coming off a personal best 32-0 1/4 which won the PVC-EMITL small school title.
Relays
4x800m- Cony comes in as the favorite and is the only team that has run under 11 minutes in the field so far this season. John Bapst (11:16.99), York (11:22.41), MDI (11:23.63) , and Nokomis (11:26.56) all figure to be in the mix for podium spots as well.
4x200m- Greely enters as the top seed with their 1:55.56 they will chased by Bucksport (1:56.26) and Central (1:56.62).
