Sprints & Hurdles

55m -  The race for fastest in Class B should be a good one with Mt. Desert Island sophomore Miles Burr leading all entrants with his 6.75. Senior Carvil Turner from Old Town is seeded just .01 behind Burr with his seasonal best of 6.76. Burr defeated Turner in a head-to-head matchup back on February 5th 6.75 to 6.77. Turner didn't compete in last week's PVC-EMITL Large school championship but is the only returning scorer from the 2020 state meet where he placed fourth in 6.87. One to watch is NYA freshman Justin Corporon who has only been running for a few weeks won the WMC junior division title running 6.80.

200m - Miles Burr is the top seed in the 200m, he won the PVC-EMITL title in a personal best 23.22. Looking to challenge Burr will be Yarmouth senior Frazier Dougherty who took the WMC senior title last week in a personal best of 23.54. It should be noted that athletes outside of the PVC-EMITL haven't been able to wear spikes in their shoes during competition yet this season this will be something to watch especially in the sprints. Evan Watts of Winslow won the KVAC Class B title last week with a personal-best 24.06.


400m - Yarmouth's Dougherty is the favorite to win the 2 lapper as he is coming off a dominating performance in winning the WMC title in 52.66. St. Dominic's Aidan Laviolette is the second seed with a top time of 54.22. Defending champion Levi Olin of Winslow is the third seed with a 54.92 best this season, he won the KVAC 400m title last week.

55m Hurdles - Poland senior Nolan Garey is the favorite to win the hurdles, he has the fastest time of 8.38, and is coming off a win at the WMC Championship running 8.44. Old Town's James Cote will look to set another personal best last week he clocked 8.55 as he won the PVC-EMITL large school title last week. Owen Conner Self of Orono clocked 8.77 to win the small school PVC-EMITL last week. Class B KVAC Champ Stephen Pierre is the other entrant that has run under nine seconds this winter, he clocked 8.74 to win a week ago.


Distance

800m - Sophomore Kaleb Colson of Sumner is the top seed in the 800m, he has run 2:04.49 this season, and last week won the PVC-EMITL small school title. Watch for senior Domenic Antonelli of Poland to be a challenger. Antonelli closed well last week to win the WMC title in a personal best 2:05.17. Hunter Pruett a senior from York is a contender as well with a seed time of 2:06.58, he placed fourth in the WMC Championship. Don't count out defending champion senior Hunter Burkhardt of St Dom's who is the fourth seed at 2:06.70.

Mile - Not much separates the top three seeds in the mile. Leading the way with the fastest seed time is sophomore William Hileman of Bucksport (4:45). Hileman won both the mile and 2-mile at last week's PVC-EMITL small school championship. Cony senior Jacob Pelletier is fresh off winning the KVAC Class B title, his best time this winter is 4:45.81. Rounding out the fastest seeds is Owen Patry a senior from Cape Elizabeth with a best of 4:47.89.

2 Mile - Hileman is the favorite in the 2-mile with his best time of 10:12.78 this winter. Cape senior Vaughn Lindenau fresh off a win at the WMC Championship has the second-fastest time this year at 10:21.59 his teammate Owen Patry is the next fastest at 10:28.51. Ian Meserve of Hermon is the other runner in field under 10:30 with his 10:29.77.


Jumps

Long Jump - Old Town junior Corbin Flewelling was 7th as a freshman in 2020 and is the only returning scorer in the field. Flewelling has jumped over 21 feet in his last two meets including a 21-5 personal best. He won the PVC-EMITL title last week. Stephen Pierre of Leavitt won the KVAC B title last week with a personal-best leap of 20-7. 2021 Class B outdoor long jump Andrew Abelon is the third seed with a best effort of 20-6 1/2 and can't be counted out.

Triple Jump - Flewelling is the top seed fresh off his personal best of 42-10 1/4 to win the PVC-EMITL title which is over two feet further than anyone else in the field. Corbin is one of two returning scorers after finishing fourth in 2020. Waterville's Theo Ruehsen has a best of 40-9 on the season, he was the KVAC Class B runner-up last week to Abelon of Belfast who leaped a personal best 40-4 1/4, Bucksport's Colin Simpson won the PVC-EMITL title and has a 40-6 jump to his credit this season.

High Jump - Bucksport senior Nathan Paulauskas leads the field with a jump of 6-4. Last week Nathan leaped 6-2 to win the PVC-EMITL small school high jump title. He'll be looking to add his first indoor state title to his resume after winning the 2021 Class C outdoor title last spring in the event. Looking to challenge for the top spot is Flewewlling of Old Town who enters with a 6-3 clearance this winter. He jumped 6-2 last week to win the large school title in the PVC-EMITL meet. Freeport's Henry Horne is the only other jumper in the field to clear six feet this season.

Pole Vault - Five different vaulters have cleared 11 feet this winter making this event wide open in terms of a favorite. Sophomore Enoch Boudreau of Freeport has the best jump of all the entrants with an 11-6 clearance, he jumped 10-6 to win the WMC title last week. He was the Class B runner-up in the event outdoors last spring. Belfast senior Nick Ritchie won the KVAC Class B vault with a seasonal best 11-3 effort, he was fourth outdoors last spring. Boudreau's teammate and fellow sophomore Reece Perry has also jumped 11-3 this season, he was the runner-up in the WMC leaping 10-6 a week ago. The Orono duo of Owen Conner Self and Alex Maheu has both jumped 11-0 this winter, they went 1-2 in the PVC-EMITL meet both jumping 10 feet.



Throws

Shot Put - All eyes will be on York junior Matt Charpentier who has thrown five feet further than the second seed. Charpentier was hitting on all cylinders at the WMC Championships last week setting a new personal best of 55 feet. The class B shot put record is one of the oldest on the books at 55-11 set by Lawrence's Jim Dawson back in 1979. Speaking of Lawrence senior Gage Boudreau broke through last week at the KVAC Class B meet as he added four-plus feet to his previous best throw on the season with his 49-4 3/4. Cape Elizabeth's Tommy Gray was the WMC runner-up last week with a personal best 45-6 34 for the junior.


Relays

4x800 - Cape Elizabeth enters with the fastest seed time of 8:36.20, they will be chased by Nokomis (9:01.84), Freeport (9:02.10) Hermon (9:03.02), and York (9:05.01)

4x200 - Yarmouth with Frazier Dougherty on anchor has the fastest seed time of 1:37.29. Chasing them will be John Bapst (1:38.20) and MDI (1:38.47). York will be in the mix with their 1:39.27 along with Winslow (1:39.69).
