Salute to Seniors: Grace Doyle (Thornton Academy)

When and how did you get into track and field?

I had always wanted to try it because I loved running but nobody ever wanted to do it with me until 6th grade when I tried it for the first time and it stuck ever since.

What was your greatest accomplishment?

Getting out of a huge mental block in triple jump.

How has track and field impacted your life?

It has given me a second family.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?

This year I had bad problems with my leg and we couldn't figure out what it was but it hurt to even walk so I had to stop doing my favorite event which is triple jump.

How do you prepare for competitions?

Listening to music and talking with my coach about my nerves.

What influence has your coach had on your high school career?

Coach Carl Smith has had the biggest impact on me out of anyone I've ever met, he always knows what to say to me and knows when I don't need words and instead just a hug after a bad jump.

Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of track and field?

I love going to watch the sunrise and sunset everyday.

What are your college plans?

My college plans are going to Concordia University in Montreal,Canada. They are just starting a competitive track and field team which I plan on joining.

What are your long term goals?

I would love the become an athletic therapist.

Who would you like to say thank you to?

Thank you to Carl Smith for always being there for me and for all the great memories we had together.

What advice you would give to younger athletes?

You know how you're feeling more than anyone you just need to voice it.
