Salute to Seniors: Griffin Johnson (Kennebunk HS)


When and how did you get into track and field?

I started doing track when I was 6 because I wanted to follow in my older sister, Hannah Johnson's footsteps.


Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?

Frank Morang because I was never able to beat him.


What was your greatest accomplishment?

Breaking Kennebunk's 55m and 200m indoor school records.


How has track and field impacted your life?

It has completely changed the path I was going on and made it better in every possible way.



What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?

Consistent injuries all 4 years.


How do you prepare for competitions?

The bus ride to meets with my teammates and friends always got me hyped up and ready.


What influence has your coach had on your high school career?

Coach Viola has always been someone I looked up to. He is hilarious and always knows what to say. He helped spark my drive to work harder than I have ever worked before.


What are your college plans?

I will be going to UMaine and plan to walk on to the track team.



What are your long term goals?

One long term goal I have is to break UMaine's Long Jump record.


Who would you like to say thank you to?

My summer track coach, William Walker, my High School track coaches, Coach Viola and Coach Fulford, and all of my teammates over the past 4 years.


What advice you would give to younger athletes?

Work hard.
