Salute to Seniors: Eve Schultz (Windham HS)

When and how did you get into track and field?

I never considered joining track until I finished my first season of running XC. I wanted to continue doing a sport that had such unity and support between athletes throughout the state. I knew that joining track would allow me to make even more friends and let me further my running career while having fun.

Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?

I would consider myself my biggest competition. It took me four years to finally realize that you can push yourself past that mental barrier to achieve things you never believed were possible. You just need to overcome the fear and pain to do so.

What was your greatest accomplishment?

This season I beat an all time PR set in 2019 my freshman year in the two mile and the one mile. I hope to drop even more time in both events over the next several years.

How has track and field impacted your life?

Not only have I accomplished more than I ever imagined as an athlete, but I have gained so many friends. Doing track has gotten me out of my comfort zone and allowed me to meet people and make memories that I will cherish forever.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?

During COVID, I struggled to find the motivation to get outside and run. I wish I could turn back time and tell myself that hard work pays off, and running is the light at the end of the tunnel.

How do you prepare for competitions?

I like to sit by myself and say; "What do I wanna do today? What can I achieve?" I like to tell myself what I can do THAT DAY and what I need to do to achieve it.

Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of track and field?

I love to eat pasta and nap. (As any Track/XC athlete does...)

What influence has your coach had on your high school career?

Coach Riddle has taught me that form is the key to success. I remember when Riddle made me put weights in my hands to drop my arms freshman year on the Twin Brook course while doing mile two repeats. Definitely an experience I will never forget.

What are your college plans?

I plan to major in Business Analytics at CMCC and transfer so I can receive my Bachelors degree. At CM I will be running Track and Field, as well as XC.

What are your long term goals?

I hope to remain active and reach new goals. I want to successfully juggle school and sports.

Who would you like to say thank you to?

I would like to thank my little sister Elise for being my competition, my teammate, my friend and my soulmate.

What advice you would give to younger athletes?

Push yourself beyond your wildest dreams. You just need to get out of your own head and march to your own drum.
