XC Countdown 2022: #18 Freeport Girls

Maine MileSplit 2022 XC Team Countdown

With the calendar switching to August soon we wanted to switch gears from the track to the trails to get ready for the upcoming cross-country season. Athletes around the state are hitting the roads and trails building up a strong base in hopes of a successful cross-country in 2022, with the hopes of lifting the state championship as a team in November the ultimate goal. Our plan is to highlight who we think are the top 25 returning girls and boys xc teams over the next three weeks. Thanks to Cheverus XC/track coach Nick Denari for volunteering his time and efforts to put this countdown together.

Ellie Batterbee is one fo the top returners for the Falcons this fall.

2022 Outlook: Things are looking up for the Falcons in 2022. Freeport barely snuck into the State Championships a year ago, placing just 7th in the South in 2021. They bring back 5 out of 7 from that team, including many important pieces like seniors Jillian Wight and Ellie Battarbee, who should lead the way for Freeport. Behind them is a solid group of underclassmen, including three athletes that were freshmen last year who could make a significant improvement heading into tis season. An X-factor for this squad is the possible addition of Liliah Hall, an incoming freshman that ran 5:51 for 1600m at Freeport Middle School. If she joins this team, the Falcons will be a force.
