XC Countdown 2022: #9 John Bapst Boys

Maine MileSplit 2022 XC Team Countdown

With the calendar switching to August soon we wanted to switch gears from the track to the trails to get ready for the upcoming cross-country season. Athletes around the state are hitting the roads and trails building up a strong base in hopes of a successful cross-country in 2022, with the hopes of lifting the state championship as a team in November the ultimate goal. Our plan is to highlight who we think are the top 25 returning girls and boys xc teams over the next three weeks. Thanks to Cheverus XC/track coach Nick Denari for volunteering his time and efforts to put this countdown together.

2022 Outlook: John Bapst appears to be the favorite in the Class B North this year. They return six of their top7 runners from their squad last year, which ended up 2 nd in the region. With three returners under 18 minutes from last fall, the Crusaders will be as solid as anybody up front. Ethan Roach may be ready to take over as a front runner for this squad. He ran 10:21 for 3200m on the track this spring. John Bapst does have a little bit of a gap to their next two runners, and then some more gaps down to their sixth and seventh runners. In order to compete for a State title, the Crusaders will need to narrow those gaps and avoid the injury bug.
