Winthrop senior James Cognata bided his time before making his winning move with 800m to go to clinch the Mountain Valley Conference (MVC) individual title at the University of Maine at Augusta Saturday morning. Cognata's winning time was 18:14.80. On the girls side Haley Williams of Winthrop ran unpressed as she stopped the clock at 22:00.40, her winning margin was thirty-five seconds.
The Winthrop boys pulled a slight upset over Boothbay/Wiscasset as the Ramblers tallied 44 points to win by 14. On the girls side Boothbay/Wiscasset turned the tables as they finished with 34, twelve points better than Winthrop.
