Sam York & Amelia Vandongen Best of Northern Maine Class B

RESULTS

Mt. Desert Island senior Sam York captured the Class B Northern Maine Regional title as he covered the 3.1 mile course in a time of 16:36.46 as he turned back the challenge of John Bapst junior Ethan Roach. Roach captured the runner-up finish with his 16:45.79 securing that low stick for the Crusaders.

Caribou senior Ephraim Willey finished third with a sub 17 effort as he clocked 16:53.13. Sophomore Griffin Merrill of John Bapst matched his pre-meet ranking with his four place 17:19.05 effort. Erskine Academy senior Nick Choate rounded out the top finishers in 17:23.86.

Behind three of the top six finishers John Bapst tallied forty points to easily outdistance runner-up Mt. Desert Island by twenty-three points. Ellsworth placed third with 95 points, Cony was forth with 100 points and Caribou rounded out the state meet qualifiers with 103 points.


Mt. Desert Island sophomore Amelia Vandongen put together the best race of her high school career as she set a new personal best 18:28.74 to win by an impressive 51 seconds over Waterville's Abby Williams.

Caribou senior Kayley Bell finished third with a 20:36 she was followed across the line by her sister Maggie Bell in fourth (21:02). Freshman Ava Collamore of Medomak Valley rounded out the top five finishers with her 21:0 effort.

With five of the top seventeen finishers Mt Desert Island scored 56 points to win by 49 over runner-up Cony.  Hermon who ranked seventh coming into the meet placed third with 130, while Medomak Valley finished fourth with 136. Caribou was fifth also with 136, while Ellsworth rounded out the state qualifiers with 140.
