The Class B boys indoor track and field championship at Bates College on Monday featured some of the best athletes to ever compete as five state meet records went down with several top ten performances all-time in state history were established.
RESULTS
York senior Matt Charpentier throwing in the circle he'll call home for the next four years got the record breaking day underway with his 57-10 1/2 bomb in the shot put. Charpentier the defending state champion and meet record holder added over a foot to his previous best as he dominated the competition by over eleven feet.
Over on the track junior Miles Burr of Mt Desert Island continued his stellar season breaking the meet record of 6.53 in the prelims with a personal best 6.47. The time is the third fastest in state history and just .01 seconds away from the best time. Burr would go on to run 6.51 to win the final. He would return later in the day to smash the 200m record of 22.67 as he sped to a new personal best and second fastest performer at 200m in state history with his 22.34 winning effort. Burr wasn't done though he was the runner-up in the triple jump with another personal best 45-1 1/2 good for the ninth best jump in state history indoors.

In the 55m hurdles top seed Nolan Garey of Poland continued his dominance as he sped to a personal best 7.62 in the final to break the his own meet record of 7.67 he set in the prelims. Garey is the only hurdler in Class B to break eight seconds this season, and his winning margin was other a half second.
Over at the pole vault top seed junior Reece Perry of Freeport eeked over 14-1 to break the meet record set back in 1986 by Brian Johnson of Scarborough (14-0 3/4) to win the event.
Old Town senior Corbin Flewelling visited the top of the podium three times as he sweep the jumps. Flewelling opened with a 6-2 clearance to win the high jump for the second year in a row. Over in the long jump he leaped out to 21-8 for his second win of the day. In his final event the triple jump he got out to 45-5 1/2 the second best jump in Class B state meet history for his third victory of the day.

On the team side St Dominic Academy, who has athletes from Lisbon and Winthrop came in the favorites and delivered the first state title in school history. Leading the way for St Dom's was senior James Cognata who won the 800m race in an impressive 1:58.96. He would double back in the next race on the track the 200m where he finished fifth with a 23.64. In the opening event the 4x800 Cognata anchored the team to an easy victory (8:51.56).
Junior Emmett Mooney added a win in the 400m as he clocked 51.67, he doubled back to finish third in the 200m (23.25).
St Dom's got a third place finish from Christopher Pottle in the one mile (4:40.65) and another third in the 2 mile (10:33.81) from sophomore Sam Laverdiere. Pottle added a fourth place effort in the 2 mile (10:38.52).
