South Portland senior Arnaud Sioho had been missing in action since he competed in the USM New Year's Relay on January 4th. Sioho competed in the 55m dash that day running 6.61 in his first time contesting the event, unfortunately, his hamstring tightened up and held him out of competition until this weekend.
Sioho came into the 2024-25 season with the third-best jump in Maine state indoor history with his 46-10 3/4 effort from the Class A state championship where he claimed first place last February.
Arnaud had K-tape on the back of his previously injured leg, opened his competition with a 48-3 jump despite bailing out of his last phase after landing awkwardly during his second phase, The effort was a new personal best and SMAA league record, and more importantly automatically qualified Sioho for the Class A state championship in the event where he hopes to repeat his title and help lead his Red Riots team to a second consecutive team title.
Updated Maine Indoor Track & Field State Records
On his second attempt, the University of Rhode Island bound senior hopped, skipped, and jumped out to a distance of 49-10. The mark surpassed his previous best jump and shattered the state record distance of 48-10 1/4 set by Cayden Spencer-Thompson of Mattanawcook Academy back in 2018.
Arnaud saved his best for his last jump as he bounded down the runway and leaped out into the sand to the first fifty-foot jump in Maine indoor track and field history. The final measurement was 50-1 3/4. The mark currently ranks Sioho second in the country just 1'6" behind the national leader.
