Class C Boys Photos |Race Video|McClintock Interview
The Western Maine Class C Boys Regional had a lot of hype leading up to the race and it did not dissapoint. The major drama surrounding the race was the battle brewing between Chase Brown (Boothbay) and Matt McClintock (Madison). The two had met 3 times prior to this race today. McClintock picked up victories at a regular season meet at Wiscassett and at the FOC. Chase Brown then bounced back and handed McClintock his first loss of the season last saturday at the MVC Championships. Along with these two were Abshir Horor (Waynflete), Jack Pierce (Merriconeag), and Josef Holt-Andrews (Telstar). The gun was sounded at around 11:15 after a slight delay and McClintock quickly jumped out to the lead with Horor close behind. McClintock came through the first mile in around 5:01 followed 3 seconds behind by Horor, and with about a 9 second lead on Brown. Through the second mile McClintock had opened up to around a 15 second lead with Brown now holding down the second spot. Horor was firmly in third spot followed by Holt-Andrews and Pierce. Coming out of "Pain Cave", McClintock now had a 20 second lead on Brown who had opened up an even larger lead over the third place spot. Horor held down the third spot until he exited "Pain Cave" and was passed by both Holt-Andrews and Pierce. McClintock was first accross the line with the fastest time of the day 16:13.40 followed by Brown (16:34.30). The major excitement in the front pack came in the battle for the third spot. Only .60 seconds seperated third place finisher Jack Pierce (16:47.10) from Telstar's freshman stand out Josef Holt-Andrews (16:47.70). Abshir Horor crossed the line next in 17:00.80 to take the fifth spot. Rounding out the top 10 were Cam Reagan (17:12.80) and Evan Kendell (17:25.50) of NYA, Charlie Jones (17:26.60) of North Haven, Nate Schwelm (17:32.40) of Boothbay, and Patrick McInnis (17:47.03) of Monmouth. In the team competition it was NYA knocking off Freeport 61-85 other team qualifiers were Waynflete (91) Boothbay (108) Monmouth (121) Telstar (162) Merriconeag (167)
