MaineTrackXC Junior Boys 2010 Rewind
The junior class produced some big time performances in 2010, including two state champions runs in Class A & C. This class is deep with a lot of talent and will bring high expectations into the 2011 season. The talent is spread across all 3 classes as well. Leading the way at the top of the junior class is Matt McClintock (Madison). McClintock won everytime out in 2010 expect once, this included victories at the Festival of Champions, Western Maine Regional & Class C State meet. Matt also clocked the fastest 5k in the state for 2010 with his 16:00.91 performance at the state meet where he defended his state title. Another impressive stat for McClintock is every race he ran with the exception of the New England meet he was well under 17 minutes for 5k. The only runner to take down McClintock in 2010 was fellow classmate and Class C rival Chase Brown-Boothbay. Brown had a strong season in 2010, he won the MVC conference title, then added 2nd place finish in the Western Regional & Class C state meet. Chase was the 3rd fastest runner overall in the state meet, he also added a strong race at the New England meet finishing 37th overall. Harlow Ladd (Messalonskee) had a breakthrough junior year on the trails, Ladd ran some impressive races winning 7 races on the year including the KVAC Class A title and Eastern Maine Class A title. Harlow had the 3rd fastest 5k time on the season 16:08. In Class B Tim Follo (Falmouth) was the top junior throughout the season. Follo led his team to a runner-up finish in the Class B state meet with his runner-up finish 16:21, which was also a personal best good for 7th fastest 5k on the year. Tim also had strong outings placing 5th at FOC, 3rd at WMC Conference Championship, 2nd in Western Maine regionals & 33rd in the New England championship meet. Class A state champion Nick Morris (Scarborough) had a great year as well, Morris won 6 races on the year highlighted by Western Maine regional and Class A state title. Nick also ran well in the SW Classic placing 3rd, & 6th in the FOC. For his efforts in the SMAA conference he was named runner of the year.
Matt McClintock-Junior of the Year
Matt McClintock (pictured above) was the repeat Class C champion in 2010. McClintock also clocked the fastest 5k for any Maine runner on the season, 16:00.91. Matt lost just once in Maine on the season, and ran under 17 minutes for every 5k he raced. He had the fastest time of any runner on Twin Brook & Belfast courses. He'll be back next year looking for his 3rd state title in a row!
2. Chase Brown-Boothbay
Chase Brown (Boothbay) pictured above had an excellent junior season. Brown started it off before the season with a strong finish at the Beach to Beacon 10k (top maine hs runner), he parlayed that into a successful XC season. Chase was the only Maine runner to defeat Matt McClintock. Brown was the state runner-up in Class C clocking the 3rd fastest time of the day. Chase ran a personal best of 16:12 on the season, and finished it off with a fine 37th place finish at the New England Championship meet.
3. Tim Follo-Falmouth & Nick Morris-Scarborough
Tim Follo (Falmouth) pictured above won 3 races this fall in the WMC. Follo ran well in the big meets, 3rd in the WMC Conference, Western Regional runner-up, Class B State runner-up, and 33rd at the New England meet. Not only did Follo excel individually he was the leader on one of the top teams in the state all year. Tim clocked a new personal best of 16:21 at the state meet, the 7th fastest 5k performance in the state during 2010. Follo also earned first team All-conference honors for his 3rd place finish.
Nick Morris (#222) above had a great 2010 XC season. Morris won 6 races in the SMAA, which earned him the runner of the year in the conference. Nick also was the top runner on the Class A state championship team, a team that was ranked #1 in the state most of the year. Morris was at his best in the championship meets, winning the Western Maine regional and Class A state meet with a furious kick in the last 100m to win both. Nick's personal best came at the state meet when he clocked 16:25.
