Hey all,
Andy Reifman-Packett here (ARP) Derek somehow thought it would be a good idea to let me blog for milesplit this season, so we'll see how that goes.
A little bit about myself. I'm a senior at Mt. Ararat High School and I've been running on the Cross Country team for all four years. I also run track. Both indoor and outdoor, and when I'm not running I can often be found on my computer gaming, or lying around reading. I'd have to say my biggest running achievement so far was placing second at Class A State Championships at Belfast last year.
This past Monday was my last first day of pre-season. A day that I've been looking forward to and dreading since my first day of pre-season freshman year. As a Freshman, I was the only boy of my grade on the team. Now I've been joined by two others. Seth Bryant and Robert Cornelison.
We started pre-season off with a mile and a half time trial on the track. I went through my mile at a relaxed 5 flat. I finished with a 7:37, so I slowed down a bit but it's still a time I'm pleased with. Plenty of hard or medium days. No easy days this week, except Friday which was game day. The game involved a lot of running though, so I'd call it an easy medium day.
Today (Saturday 8/20) was the Alumni race. It's between Morse, Brunswick, and us. As well as any alumni from the three teams that want to come and run it. This year we only had 6 alumni. Jake Letourneau (MTA Grad) Patrick Horan (Brunswick Grad) Ben Dwyer (I believe related to Jake. MTA Grad) Chloe Emerson (MTA) Patrick O' Neal (MTA) and D Tanner (Unknown). It was a good race. Only two miles, which means it's a good start for the newcomers. I decided not to go all out as I hadn't been sleeping well and I wanted to take this race easy. I went out at a very relaxed pace. By the time I'd gone up the one hill I had taken the lead and was followed closely by Jamie Ross of Brunswick. I'm not sure where the mile marker was but I know we went through it in under 6. Jamie stuck with me for awhile until we went down the final hill and I started to accelerate to the finish. My final time was a 10:38. With Jamie the only other one under 11 running 10:56.
I'm really looking forward to next week with the Laliberte. It will be a good indication of how KVACs and Eastern Regionals could turn out later this season. I hope you all had a good first week of pre season and are where you want to be with your training.
