Matt McClintock Fall Athlete Blog

Hello again guys smiley

I feel a little weird that I’m already on blog #3 when the rest of these guys just started up.  By the way wicked excited at the line up MaineTrackXC has this year!  You guys better keep paying attention to the rest of these blogs because your not going to find much more dedicated runners than the ones blogging this season.

Well I guess the way to start off would be with the preseason.  It’s so nice to finally get back to running with a team instead of all by my lonesome self HAHA.  We started off Sunday night with our sports night where everyone goes and meets the coaches and gets their paper work filled out etc.  Last year we had six kids on our ENTIRE cross country team.  Boy was I surprised to see 10+ boys sitting in the classroom.  We now have a total of I think 17 kids on the team.  Most of preseason consisted of getting the rookies who didn’t run over the summer some miles.  By the way very pleased with how everyone is coming along.  We threw in a couple of interval workouts that really introduced everyone to the sport haha!

I ran three 5k’s this week so my legs are really feeling run down.  The first one was the conclusion of the Farm to Farm 5k weekly race series.  I had practice that morning so I really was hoping to just add on a couple miles of easy distance.  However things didn’t work out as planned and it turned into a 3 mile tempo run which I covered in 17:49 ugh. Haha.  Thursday we had the annual Kennebec 5k in Madison.  The team runs this every year just to set there opening 5k times of the season.  I raced the police car most of the ways and hit a new 5k PR of 15:22 :D!  (My sister Allie also his a huge PR of 20:52, watch out everyone)!  After words the police officer that led me through the course congratulated me by saying “Good job!  You better never run from me because I’ll have to shoot you”.  Compliment or not, leave me your thoughts in the comments section.  Finally I closed out the week at the New Balance 5k which my senior class organized as a fundraiser.  I was expecting to get to race a professional runner from Italy, but he wasn’t there this year.  I did face a pretty strong threat from a guy that I think works for New Balance who covered the 5k in 16:21.  I managed to pull away over the last 1.5 miles and hit a 15:36 to complete my week.

Feel free to let me know how your summers going. I’m on facebook and Twitter (@Crazylegs1694).  I look forward to seeing everyone at the Festival Of Champions and getting to watch everyone compete in the State Championship Meets.  Good Luck with your seasons everyone!

Today’s quote I hope will be an inspiration to push everyone through the season.  The high points and the lows…
