Hello once again everyone 

So the regular season has started and the quest for the state championships has once again began.  I hope everyone’s opening meets went just as planned.

We opened up our season at Telstar High School on Sept. 2nd.  Hurricane Irene had really hit hard down there and the whole course was soaked, so times were quite a lot slower than I would have liked.  After a solid weekend of running we turned our sights to the Carrabec meet the next Wednesday where we would once again meet our newly found MVC rivals, Telstar.  It was raining when we got to the meet and it never seemed to let up (that is until AFTER we all raced).  We had a really good team warm-up (it’s so nice to have some other guys to be on the line with) and then we hit the start line.  Off the gun it was Josef Holt-Andrews and I were out at the front of the pack.  About a quarter mile in I put in a little surge that seemed to shake him just a bit and I put the pressure down from there.  I finally got the break from him about ¾ of a mile into the race.  The nicest thing about the Carrabec course is the mile marks, it’s a 3 loop course meaning that each mile mark is within about 20 feet of each other so my coaches were able to get me moving each time I came by them.  I crossed the 3 mile mark in 15:08 and then managed what I guess you could call a kick over the last tenth to cross the line in 15:38.

Now I was getting a lot of attention after this run, but my teammates had much more impressive performances than I did.  I think each and everyone of them ran a PR, so I’d like to recognize all the hard work my teammates have been putting in.

Tristen PR’d by over 1 minute
Colby PR’d by almost 2 minutes
Ross PR’d by over 1 minute
Sam PR’d by 15ish seconds
Ron PR’d by 30ish seconds
Steve PR’d by 20ish seconds
Alex PR’d by 20ish seconds
Cody PR’d by 30 seconds
Brandon PR’d by almost 4 MINUTES!

I’m so impressed with these guys and I know that they are going to continue to get better throughout the season.  Next Wednesday will be a huge test for these guys when we head to UMA to face the entire MVC.  I’ll bet you that they show up.

Today’s quote is one I just need to get up on here even though I’m sure you’ve all heard it.

“A lot of people run a race to see who’s the fastest… I run a race to see who has the most guts.” - Steve Prefontaine
