Hello again everyone,

It’s been a while since I last wrote and a lot has happened.  First off I’ve had 4 meets since I’ve last talked to you.  The MVC Preview, Wiscassett, Bulldog Challenge, and the Festival Of Champions.

The MVC Preview was the first time I got to race fellow Class C runner Chase Brown.  It was a beautiful day for a race, a little hot and humid, but oh well.  I got out through the mile in 4:58 and just kept plugging along from their.  My goal was to be under 16 minutes on it (wicked tough course)  I ended up with a 16:17 so not quite what I wanted, but it’s a good bench mark for the rest of the season.

A week later we were at the Wiscassett for yet another race against Brown and Boothbay.  This is only a 3 mile course so not quite a full 5k.  The footing is awful as well.  I was through the mile in 4:56 this time, and finished in 15:07 a new 3 mile PR by 40 seconds

The Bulldog Challenge is a nice little warm up for the festival.  What it is, is a 4x1.8 mile relay race.  I ran in the mixed race with my sister Allie, Bronte Elias, and Tristen Rich.  We placed second overall to the Telstar boys team, and got some brand new t-shirts!

And now, the meet we’ve all been waiting for.  The Festival Of Champions.  I woke up with intentions of breaking Will Geohegan’s 2 year old course record of 15:33, but the weather soon made it apparent that realizing my dream was slim to none.  However, there is no harm in at least trying.  I got out to the front quick, right where I like to be, and put the hammer down through the first mile crossing in 4:46.  Then came the hard part, the quarter mile uphill.  With every step I was sliding back a good 6 inches.  I came through the 2 mile in 10:03 so at that point I realized breaking the record wasn’t going to happen so I just focused on keeping the win and not getting injured for the rest of the year.  I crossed the stripe in 16:08.07, 2 seconds slower than last season.  Bronte ran a huge personal best of 20:57 to win the girls freshman race, haha I was more excited over her win than I was my own.  Another shout out goes to Alana Morgan who ran a personal best in the unseeded race by over 5 MINUTES!

Not much to really talk about in practice, we basically just tapered down to the festival.

Today’s quote comes from a coaching legend…

“Run the first 2/3 of the race with your head, run the last 1/3 with your heart” - Jack Daniels

Until next time,  Good Luck Everyone!
