Defending champion Nick Morris (Scarborough) will be shooting for his 2nd straight regional title. Morris is no starnger to first place as he won 5 races during the regular season. Biddeford's Cameron Nadeau will compete for the win as well, Nadeau has been within 2-3 seconds of Morris in 2 different races this fall. Chris Dunn (Kennebunk) has been running very well this year, he's won 5 races in 2011. Keegan Brennan (Windham) is another one to watch for on Saturday. Also Bryant Perkins (Sanford) will be contender he has the 3rd best 5k time on the season 16:38. If the race comes down to a kick, the edge goes to Morris, he's used it to win several races in the last 2 years. This race will also determine all conference, the top 7 are first team, while the next 7 are second team.

Defending champion Scarborough is the heavy favorite to win the regional title again, the red storm are deep and talented. South Portland looks to be the next best team, they have beaten everyone but Scarborough in 2011, including a dominating win over in town rivals Deeing, Cheverus & Portland last week. The top 8 teams will move on to the state meet. Look for Deering, Cheverus, Windham, Massabesic, Portland, Sanford, & Kennebunk to fight for a spot.

Class C

Defending champion Matt McClintock of Madison is undefeated in 2011 against all competition. Matt is the hevay favorite to win again on Saturday, no question he'll be aiming to run faster than a year ago, and shooting for the top time on the day from all 3 classes. Jack Pierce (Merriconeag) maybe ready to give McClintock a run, last week at the WMC championship he ran with Silas Eastman & Tim Follo until the final stretch. Don't count out MVC runner-up & last years regional runner-up Chase Brown of Boothbay, he was 28 seconds back of McClintock last week but is cutting gap each week. Add in MVC 3rd place finisher & 4th place regional finisher a year Josef Holt of Telstar into the mix, and you have 4 of the top runners in the state battling it out, should make for a great race and produce some fast times.

Team Scores based on each athletes best performances in 2011

North Yarmouth Academy has been ranked amongst the top teams in the state all year, thye went thorugh a tough patch in early October but rebounded in style at the WMC championship where they won the D2 title, and placed 2nd in the overall only losing to top ranked Falmouth. If they repeat that type of performance they will run away with the title. Telstar took the MVC title with relative ease, they'll look challenge NYA for the top spot. The top 8 teams will advance to the state meet. Boothbay, Winthrop & Waynflete are the next best teams that should advance with ease and move up if one of the top teams slip up.  After that the next 3 spots are up in the air with Lisbon, Hall-Dale, Monmouth & Merriconeag in the mix.

Class B

Defending champion Silas Eastman (Fryeburg) is the defending champion, he is undefeated on the season. Eastman was pushed to the edge last week at the WMCchampionship as he had to sprint by Falmouth's Tim Follo in the homstretch for the win. These two should duke it out again in what should be a great one on one battle. Greely's Stefan Sandreuter & Nate Maderia along with Will Shafer (GNG), Mitchell Finitz (York) & Thomas Edmonds (Falmouth) all figure to shooting for a top 5 finish.

#1 ranked Falmouth is the heavy favorite to take the Western Maine title that eluded them in 2010, the Yachtsmen have handled every team with ease, and dominated the WMC championship against many of the teams they will race on Saturday. The runner-up spot is up for grabs, Greely the runner-up in WMC D1 championship last week might have the edge with the home course advantage, the Rangers know how to run well at Twin Brook. Freeport will be looking to continue their strong season, they were just 2 points behind Greely last week. Watch out for York, they had an off day at WMC's they will be motivated to put that behind them and come home with some hardware. Last year's regional runner-up Cape Elizabeth could make a run as well.
