The Waterville boys & girls opened their season in impressive fashion with wins at the Bowdoin Relays. The Purple Panthers the defedning Class B girls champions tallied 116 while runner-up Greely scored 92. On the boys side Waterville scored 111 to easily outdistance the Class A state meet favorites Mt. Ararat (80.50). Individually Bethanie Brown smashed the meet record in the mile running 5:09.83, the old record was 5:33.78

 

Girls Highlights

Greely had the top 3 shot putters with Cassidy Storey (33-4), Lindsey Steinberg (32-4) & Catherine Fellows (31-3) to dominate the Shot Put Relay with a combined total of 96-11

Alison Hill (Brunswick) 15-7 1/2 took the long jump then added the win in the triple jump 34-0 3/4 -Waterville won the team relay in both jumps

Greely went 1-2 in the girls high jump with Kaley Swayer & Kelsey Saunders clearing (4-8) Courtney Mailly (Waterville) & Moira Lachance (NYA) also cleared 4-8

Waterville dominated the 3xmile relay led by Bethanie Brown who smashed the meet record with her 5:09.83, Lara Bluhm (5:43.57) & Tiana Thomas (5:43.57) were Brown's teammates, Brunswick got strong miles out of Tersea Murphy (5:34.88) & Katie McMahon (5:37)

Brunswick edged Waterville to win the Sprint Medley (SMR1K) 3:04.95 to 3:05.96

Waterville took the Girls Distance Medley 13:08.81 over Brunswick 13:19.06

Brunswick clocked a fine 4x200 performance (1:54.09)

Brunswick rolled to the fastest time in the state for the 4x800 (10:23.26)

 

Boys Highlights

Nick Margitza (Waterville) bombed the shot out to 47-11 while Rudy Pandora the top returner in Class A opened well 46-1

Defending Class A long jump champion McKenzie Gary (Mt. Ararat) opened with a leap of 20-7 1/4

Waterville's Devin Burgess cleared 12-0 in the vault

Jamie Ross (Brunswick) took the Mile in a fine 4:36.61 holding off a strong effort from Lewiston's Mohammed Barre 4:38.66, Ross combined with Benson Worthington & Wilder Nicholson to win the 3xMile Relay (14:19.94)

Brunswick also took the Distance Medley Relay 11:26.62 over Mt. Ararat 11:31.12 & York 11:33.08

Mt. Ararat was the only boys 4x200m team under 1:40, with a 1:39.81, thanks to a 22.8 split from McKenzie Gary

Mt. Ararat clocked an early season state leader in the 4x800 (8:48.33) while Greely (8:54.1) & York (8:54.28) were also under 9
