Hey ME Milesplit Followers,

My name is Mohamed Barre, for those of you that don't me very well, I'll talk a little about myself, I'm an upcoming Senior at Lewiston High School. I started running my freshman year when a friend told me to sign up, so I could get in shape for basketball. At first glance I thought running was a silly sport, but then I started to notice the amount of determination and work ethic you need in order to be successful in the sport, I've been running ever since.

This is the first summer in which I've been running during the off-season. I've been slowly been trying to bring my mileage up, but I have been lacking consistency.
July 19th was the first day of Ramadan. For those of you who don't know what it is, it's an Islamic Holiday in which Muslims around the world must abstain from eating and drinking, from sun up to sun down for an entire month. The meaning behind this is to diminish the dependence on material goods, purify our hearts, as well as establishing solidarity with the less fortunate to encourage charitable work during the year. The reason I told you this was because in the past three years I've had to fast during my cross country season and it becomes extremely difficult, so difficult that I have had to drop out of races in some cases. Luckily this year Ramadan will not coincide with my XC training. Yet I have to run in the early morning instead of the afternoon because of the hot July Sun.

Last week I ran a road race in which I was fasting and ran a time of 18:17, which wasn't close to the goal I had in mind before the race. Most of the failure was caused by me not running enough, I realized then and now that I have to put in more work in order for me to get the results I want.

It looks like this is the end of entry I have to go and watch the London Olympics now and I hope the rest of you are doing the same.
