The place to be this weekend is Belfast, Maine for the 8th annual Maine XC Festival of Champions meet will be taking place on Saturday. With 58 schools entered and with 1300 athletes expected to compete this is the largest XC meet in Maine. Most of the top ranked teams in the state will be running, so we will have a good idea of where everyone stands at the end of the day. Not only will the top teams be there but the top individual talent is outstanding. One the boy’s side you have defending Class A (Will Geoghegan) and Class B (Alex Moser) state champions along with a host of other talent including Nate Hathaway (Scarborough), Luke Fontaine (Cony), & Kelton Cullenberg (Mt. Blue) all who have been breaking course records this fall. On the girls side top ranked Cape Elizabeth won’t be racing but that doesn’t diminish the competitive race that is expected to take place with top teams from Western Maine like Cheverus, Scarborough, Falmouth & Gorham along with Eastern Maine teams Mt. Blue, John Bapst, Brunswick, John Bapst & Brewer. The individual race features defending Class B champion, Abby Mace (Maranacook), Class A runner-up Emily Durgin (Cheverus), Dacie Manion (Old Town), Melody Lam (Mt. Blue), Mia Rapolla (Gorham) & Fiona Hendry (Cheverus) to name a few.
