Maine Distance Gala leads to Mile State leader for Terwilliger Jun 17, 2011

Cheverus's Jack Terwilliger ran with the big boys in the featured Running Times Mile @ the first Maine Distance Gala tonight, and more than held his own. The race was set up to give Maine native Riley Masters a shot to become the first Maine native to run under 4 minutes for the mile on Maine soil, and while Masters would come up short (4:03.47), Terwilliger hung with the fast early pace going through the first lap in 60 seconds, and covering 800m in 2:03, Jack would hang tough for a new state leading & personal best 4:14.88. On the girls side newly sub 5 minute 1600m runner Bethanie Brown (Waterville) dropped down to the 2 lap 800m, she clocked a personal best & state #2 performance of 2:18.83.
