Falmouth & NYA Boys, Cape & Yarmouth girls win WMC titles Oct 16, 2011

The #1 ranked Falmouth lived up to expectations as they dominated the boys WMC XC Championships @ St. Joe's college this afternoon. The Yachtsmen had 5 of the top 12 in the DI race to tally just 37 points, 40 points better than runner-up Greely. Individually Tim Follo of Falmouth took the top spot in the DI race 16:38.21 with Stefan Sandreuter (Greely) the runner-up 17:29.9. On the girls side in DI, Cape Elizabeth used a strong pack with 5 of the top 14 finishers to score 48 to edge runner-up Falmouth by 10 points. Individually Kristina Smith of Poland took top honors covering the 5k course in 20:26.69 with Heather Evans (York) the runner-up 20:40.09. The individual winner of the D2 Boys race was Silas Eastman (Fryeburg) who had the fasest time of any runner on the day 16:36.67, with Jack Pierce (Merriconeag) the runner-up 16:44.5. Teamwise NYA was on their game as they easily took the D2 team title behind 6 runners in the top 13 finishers, they tallied just 36 points with Fryeburg edging Waynflete for 2nd on a 6th man tie breaker. In the D2 girls race Martha Veroneau (Waynlete) took the top spot 21:32.84 to hold off the runner-up Sarah Becker (Yarmouth) 21:39.61. The Yarmouth girls took the D2 title with 42points 6 better than the runner-up Merriconeag Waldorf. Click headline for a full recap.
