Maine Team History

Maine Boys Top 25 finishers 1999-Present

  

            Maine has been participating in the New England Cross-Country Championships since they began back in 1935. In those years since there have been times where Maine didn't always send teams and individuals. Maine has been the host to the New England XC championships seven times.  WatervilleHigh School is the only Maine team to capture the New England Team Title doing it twice (1957 & 1976). In 2004, Maine teams once again will be able to compete for team championships for the first time since 1977.  Runners from Maine have won seven individual New England championship races, the first being Morris Toothaker (1938) from Phillips High School, Paul Firlotte from Ellsworth High School in 1951, Harold Hatch from Pemetic High School won in 1956, Harvey Barlow from Deering High School in 1973, Bruce Bickford from Lawrence High School in 1974, Joe Belyea from South Portland High School in 1976, the last being Louie Luchini from Ellsworth High School in 1998.Maine has been participating in the New England Cross-Country Championships since they began back in 1935.
