The 2nd annual Hoka Southern Maine XC Classic will take place at Naragansett School in Gorham on Saturday.
The Scarborough Boys won 3 out of the 4 races, while the Bonny Eagle girls went 1-2 in freshman race then 1-2-3 in senior girls race to show great team depth at SMAA Relays.

USM Relays: Closing Out 2017 With a Bang
Conference championships around the state highlighted the weekend in Maine XC. We had several of the top teams in the state battle it out at the KVAC Championships, while some of the top runners rested for the WMC Championships. A course record went down in the PVC and there were dominant team finishes in the MVC. Let's take a look at the highlights.

Everyone in Class A will be chasing the "Red Storm" the defending champions. Scarborough is poised to repeat this fall with their top 3 all having run 16:43 or under a year ago.
The winners of this week's MaineTrackXC Performance of the week after votes from the audience are Anne Guadalupi of Cony & Ben Breton of Windham. Guadalupi ran under 19 minutes for 5k at Lawrence, while Ben Breton set the course record at South Portland.

Today was a record setting day for a pair of runners at the Lake Region Invitational. Matt Malcom and Hannah Austin of NYA both turned in record runs of 15:00 and 17:59 on the 2.8 mile course.
As part of our XC preview this year we are doing a virtual meets of the returners from last year based on 5k times for each class. Today's virtual meet is the Western Maine Class A Boys, see who is the favorite to win the Western Maine title this fall.

The Windham boys are coming on a 8th place finish at the Class A state meet last fall. The Eagles return 5 of their top 7 from a year ago, plus have added some top freshmans into the mix. Windham is primed for their best finish in state meet in a long time this fall.
The Windham girls finished 7th in the Western Maine Regional a year ago before going on to finish 10th in the Class A championships. The Eagles return 5 of their top 7 from the state meet a year ago as they look to make the jump up the rankings in 2013.
The Lake Region Invitational in Naples Maine, got the WMC and SMAA competition underway on Saturday morning. It was a hot and not so pleasant day for the runners, but the heat was no competition for race winners Hannah Austin of North Yarmouth Academy and Will Schafer of Gray-New Gloucester.

The Scarborough Boys registered a perfect score to win the SMAA second seven championship, while the Windham girls dominated on the girls side with 23. Scarborough's Maxim Doiron won the individual boys title 18:03 while Alexis Wintle of Windham ran 22:16 for the win in the girls race

The #7 ranked Bonny Eagle girls edged the #8 ranked Windham Eagles at Smling Hill Farm in Scarborough this afternoon. The Scots had the fire power up front placing 2-3-4, with Samantha Cox leading the way with a 20:17. Winhdam took the next 4 spots 5-6-7-8 to close the gap with Erin Flately leading the way in 20:36, but BE's #4 runner Kristen Glennie raced to a 10th place finish to give the Scots the 19-26 through 4 runners. Windham would have runners 5-6-7 finish in the 15th-17th spots to give Windham a score of 41, BE's #5 runner held off a Scarborough runner by less than .3 seconds for 21st, the result a 40-41 win for the Scots. Individually Gorham's Mia Rapolla raced to a convincing 41 second victory, clocking 19:36 over the 5k course. On the boys side #1 Scarborough dominated once again, this time scoring 19 points to defeat #7 Gorham, who ran without #1 runner Logan Marshall. For the Red Storm, Nick Morris 16:56 lead a 1-2-3 finish, as Scarborough had 6 of the top 9 finishers on the day. RESULTS

Freshman Abbey Leonardi (Kennebunk) broke the SMAA Relay record with a 8:45 over th 1.6 mile course, she took 2 seconds from the previous record held by Erica Jesseman (Scarborough) who is now a top runner at UNH. Nate Hathaway (Scarborough) took control of the boys race at 800m and never relented as he took the race with a 7:56 clocking. Scarborough Boys showed great depth as they took the team title, while the Scarborough girls pulled it out in the 5th race as Erin McElwain proved the difference.
