2012 State Meet Finish: 4th Class A16:47

Best time in a 5K race and in which meet:

I got 16:47 in both Festival of Champions and the State Meet. Both meets I felt great in, it pays to get sleep on occasion.

Tell us how your summer training is going?:

My summer training has been great. I've had a lot of injuries this past winter through summer and I haven't been able to train nearly as much as I'd like to, until now. I'm feeling better than ever and for the first time I can really get my miles up.

What are your goals for the upcoming season?:

I have some high expectations for this season. Breaking 16:00 is definitely my first goal, but getting our school record, which is currently 15:44 set by Kelton Cullenberg, is what I really have my sights on this year. Also winning Class A states is very important to me, for a long time I've dreamt of being a state champion runner and I finally have the chance to achieve that.

How long have you been running and how did you get started?:

I started running the Fall of my Sophomore year. I only really joined the XC team because all my friends were doing it, and I didn't really take it seriously. After doing pretty well and PRing by a ton in the Regional meet my first year, I realized that I had a lot more potential than what I had thought and decided to start training more and becoming more competitive.

Will you be competing anywhere out of state this season?:

No, I doubt it, as a team we never go out of state for races. But the New England meet is out of state this year, so I guess that counts.

What is your favorite course to run in Maine?:

My favorite course to run on is definitely Belfast. I've had all my best races there and it's a very fast course. I know it better than any of the other courses in Maine.

What is the toughest course to run in Maine?:

I personally think that the hardest course to run on in Maine is Twin Brook. So I'm a little disappointed that it is the host of the state meet this year. I really wish it was at Belfast, but Twin Brooks is a really nice course even though it's difficult.

What meet during the regular season do you put extra emphasize on to compete well at?:

Probably the Brunswick meet that Mt.Blue attends. It's about the middle of the season and a lot of people PR there, not to mention I really like that course. I remember last year it was the first race that I got a time in the low 17:00s which was a big stepping stone towards the next few meets and breaking 17:00.

What is your favorite cross country race so far in your high school career?:

My favorite XC race is definitely my Junior year state meet. The entire season my goal was to beat our team's captain, Justin Tracy (t was pretty much my only goal for most of that year). I had come very close to achieving my goal at Festival of Champions and Regionals, but the State meet was the first race I had done it. The conditions that day were perfect and Belfast is my favorite course to run on. Getting 4th at the State meet was a huge eye opener, and made me realize that I have the potential to be the best in my class

Favorite cross country memory?:

I have a lot of good memories from the past few years on the XC team. The Mt.Blue team is a ton of fun and the entirety of the Maine running community has a lot of great people. My favorite memories probably come from the Acadia trip we do every year as a team for a couple of days before the season starts. Also Acadia Running Camp was pretty awesome this year. But racing is something I enjoy beyond anything else, I love the competition and the feeling of kicking it in over the final stretches is the best mix agony and thrill.

When you are not running what is your favorite thing to do?:

Well when I'm not running I'm usually playing Super Smash Bros with my friends, I don't do much else.

Favorite quote?:

"Don't tell me what I can't do!" - Every character from Lost

What shoes do you train in?:

I train in Asics shoes only. I actually think it's just bad luck for me to where other brands because the one time I did was when I also happened to become injured. But if I for some reason couldn't wear Asics I'd probably wear Saucony.

What shoes do you race in?:

My spikes are Saucony Shay XC3s. I absolutely love them, I've had multiple spikes for track and XC and none of them are nearly as comfortable or perform nearly as well as them.

What professional athlete would you most like to meet?:

Oh that's a good question. My running idol is definitely Ben True. He's been a huge inspiration for me and is kind of my biggest role model. The fact that he's also from Maine just makes him even cooler.

What is something that most people don't know about you?

My room is an abandoned day care. But as far as abandoned things go it's actually pretty nice
