Looking Back: 2013-14 Top Sophomore Girls Indoor Track

 The sophomore Class had a succesful 2013-14 indoor track season. Belfast's Cassidy Hill won the Class B 400m state title, while in Class A Kialeigh Marston was a double winner taking the Mile & 800m. There were several other standouts that earned a spot on the podium at the state meet, and were ranked top 10 in their respective events statewide.

Emma Egan (Yarmouth) & Maddy Price (Skowhegan) were the top two short sprinters for the Class of 2016 this winter. Both young ladies ran 7.59 in the state championship meets, with Egan finished as the runner-up in Class B, and Price finished fourth in the Class A meet

Belfast's Cassidy Hill was the ony sophomore to run under 27 seconds for the 200m, Hill ran her fastest time of the season 26.42 at the Class B state meet to finish as the state runner-up. Her mark is the 18th fastest time recorded at a state meet in the event, In Class A Falmouth's Emma England ran a 27.43 to finish 5th in the state meet.

400m

Belfast's Cassidy Hill came close to breaking 60 seconds this winter, running 60.09 to win the Class B state title. Bonny Eagle distance standout Kialeigh Marston showed she has great range as she was the only other sophomore to run in the 60 second range with her 60.63 effort that broke the SMAA junior division record. At the Class A state meet Aly Atherton of Scarborough ran to a third place finish, while Felicity Palmer of Bangor was 5th. Also scoring in the Class B in 6th place was Charlotte Reilly of York.

800m

Sophomores ruled the roost in the 800m this winter. In Class A, Kialeigh Marston of Bonny Eagle ran 2:17.13 during the season, and then went on to win the Class A state meet, she was followed to the line by Brunswick's Tiffany Tanner who ran a personal best 2:23.50. In fifth place in the A meet was Scarborough's Emma Koukos. In Class B, Wells Kate Macolini earned a fourth place podium finish, while Freeport's Chloe Hight was right behind in fifth.

Mile

Kialeigh Marston was almsot 20 seconds faster than any other sophomore in the state this winter, Marston would go on to win the Class A state championship in the event running her seasonal best 5:12.62, she also won the 800m. Kialeigh's time was 3rd fastest in the state in 2013-14. Also running well in mile was Scarborough's Lauren Volan who placed 6th in the Class A, one spot in front of Brunswick's Tiffany Tanner.

Tessa Cassidy & Kialeigh Marston were the only sophomores to break 12 minutes, and both placed in the Class A state meet. Cassidy of Brunswick ran to a 5th place finish while Marston was a few steps behind in 6th, both ran their best time of the year 11:43.92 & 11:45.46 respectively.

55m Hurdles

Greely's Jocelyn Mitiguy & Camden Hill's Melissa Kessel had the top 55m hurdles times, the duo both ran their best at the Class B state meet. Mitiguy ran to a 5th place finish in 9.13 while Kessel was a blink of the eye behind in 6th, 9.17, In the Class A meet Sarah Mount of Cheverus was 7th.

Shot Put

Greely's Alysaa Casarez had a breakthrough season that saw her get the shot out to 37-3 for a personal best. Casarez was the Class B runner-up this winter, and had the second best throw in the state overall. Ellsworth's Elizabeth Perry was another standout, Perry placed third in the Class B state meet, she had a best of 36-4 3/4 on the season which ranked her third best in the state.

Long Jump

York's Katherine Bullock had her best jump of the season at the Class B state meet, Bullock leaped a personal best 16-3 3/4 to place third overall. Also scoring in the Class B meet was Yarmouth's Emma Egan who was 5th.

Triple Jump

Falmouth's Lydia Farmer excelled in the post season going from 31-11.5 during the regular season all the way out to 34-9 to place third in the Class A state meet, her mark was good for 6th best jump in the state during the season. Also on the podium was Maddy Price of Skowhegan who jumped a personal best 33-10 3/4 at the Class A state meet, good for fourth. Anna Beaudet of Edward Little also earned her way onto the Class A podium with a leap of 33-7 which placed her 6th.

High Jump

Three sophomores jumped over 5ft on the season, and all three made podium appearances at the state meet. Leading the way in Class A was Alexis WIntle of Windhamw ho was the surprise state champion with a seasonal best 5-2 clearance. In Class Emma Egan of Yarmouth also cleared 5-2 to place second. Egan would go on to jump 5-3 at the Maine USATF championship, and was the only Maine jumper to clear a height at the New England Championships.

Pole Vault

Just 3 sophomore girls met the state qualifying standards. Alysaa Casarez placed the highest on the podium with 4th place effort in the Class B meet, with Hannah Stevens of Traip placing 6th. Allison Pickering of Orono had the highest jump of 9-0 during the season.
